    Anyone powdercoat for 454?

Just curious as to how fast you push them without a gc. I have just purchased a new to me and very lightly used one and am wanting to use pc cast as much as possible. I haven’t bought any molds yet but am leaning toward 270-300 grain bulllets. I am not interested in cranking out everything this round can do.........yet.
I am not really wanting to use j bullets unless I have to.
Forgot to say he gave me all his brass and unused ammo. 10 live rounds and 10 empty cases in an old box of 20 that he safe queened after 1 outing several years back. He didn’t load his own and it bit too hard for his taste. Hopefully I can pull it’s teeth and only be gummed really bad.

I traded a 454 casell for a 45 acp, nothing will hold up to the pressure of that beast. Lube ,Powder coat, Or any thing other than copper jacket bullets. I am talking full power loads.

That was kinda the idea I was thinking about getting a 45 colt but this deal was too good and I can do from 45 colt to holy smoking cheese loads.

Try 8 gr Unique under a 230 gr for a hot .45 ACP load. 14 gr. Unique under a 245gr SWC is fun. My bear loads are 24 gr of H110 or W296 pushing a 360 gr WFNGC.

I don’t have a 454 but I use my .460 S&W to push 285 grain SWC to the 1,300 - 1,500 range with good accuracy. Trying to get my 350 grain bullet up to those velocities starts to really torque up on the recoil.

There are a lot of good moods in the 270 to 285 range.

Any recommendations on a mold from Tom at accurate molds? Do I need to go with a gas check as well as powdercoat or only at upper velocity/pressure? What would be the cutoff for needing a gas check?

    I traded my SS 454 H&R on a Ruger 450 Bushmaster Bolt.

I cast & powder coat bullets. To date Almost 100 shot at 1900fps plain base cast at 14/15 BHN DO NOT lead the barrel.

I had 454 casulls for about 25 years , sold one still have 2 guns , all shot cast bullets lubed & with gas checks and at full velocity at least 1.5 inches or usually better at 50 yards from a bench using a pistol scope.
