Looks like it is Unique and what other powder you like for more specific loads.

Universal is very close to Unique, but Universal is just a touch faster, in my experience.

I have had very good results using Universal with STARTING LOADS of Unique data, and slowly working my way up.

I agree with Tracy...I like Red Dot too....its a bit dirty...but I'd have to clean the gun no matter what I shoot in it....very consistent results with Red Dot.

I am betting that best "All Around Powder" is Unique.
The problem is there are far too many rabbit trails to follow for that the be the "Best" for all uses.

    Ray,

I have been casting and reloading for many calibers since 1961. IF there is ONE "best all-around cast bullet powder" I do not know it. I have about a dozen powders on establishment for jacketed and cast rifle and handgun loads. When you find ONE powder that does it all, please so advise.

    Be well.

In my experience, if ONE powder had to be choosen, it would have to be Unique.

THERE IS NO ONE ALL ROUND BRAND OF SMOKELESS POWDER - PERIOD. Each brand has specific loading data depending on the caliber being reloaded
Even black powder different grades have specific caliber uses - PERIOD

There are so many to consider but if you had to choose one, I’d say unique.

    I would agree
    Unique
    Handgun, rifle, and shotgun

Promo/Red Dot is another, but it is lesser all around

But neither will cycle AR 15s so there is that
Once you get to the point that 5.56 cycles an AR, you lose shotgun and handgun mostly

I use mainly Unique, RL7 or 4895, BUT there are others that I use on occasion depending on what I'm loading. Those include IMR 4350, IMR 4198, Red Dot, 2400 and CFE BLK. I've been trying PROMO lately with mixed results. For light pistol loads I also use Bullseye. Your choice should always depend on what it is that you are reloading and what you want out of the load.

If I could only have one powder for the rest of my life it would be Unique.

I have workable loads for 14 different calibers. Not optimum but workable.

It's hard to beat Red Dot or Unique for both pistol and rifle loads. I tend to not stick to just one powder though. I like Bullseye for most of my pistol loads, 2400 for magnum loads. Rifle loads are a bit more complicated. I don't do a WHOLE lot of shooting with cast in rifles, though I do really like H4895 for use in a 9.3x57 Mauser.

The one I use most often is Unique but that doesn't make the best. I'm more familiar with it than any other save IMR-3031, experiences being about equal. I try to let the firearm tell me what it likes best.

I prefer Rel 7 for cast loads in rifles, 5744 works ok, but I always seem to end up with unburnt granules of powder.
