    AR 15 pistols

Looking for thoughts on the Flash Cans or anything on that line to keep the flash down and maybe some noise. A suppressor is a fix by not for me.

Also I have 223 and 300 BO and so do my boys I can tell mine apart with no problem but when I pick up one of my sons I have to look at the barrel to tell which one is which.
I want a way to mark each gun so anyone can tell and so far all I can find is the engraved dust covers that are marked on both sides they run about 15 bucks each. Sounds great until you add up all the dust covers cost and I am not so sure how well these will stay readable.
So far this seems to be the best way of marking the guns so a mistake may be avoided.
So has anyone came up with a good way to mark the uppers ?

This is my first AR pistol and any input would be great thanks.

Spray each dust cover with a stencil (special design each)and Duracoat or High temp grill paint. Just clean clean clean with a good cleaner before you spray. I think it will hold up for years.

What about color matching the dust covers to the mags. Paint the dust cover red and red stripe across the mag. Or if you don't want to paint the mag, a strip of red tape. One can of paint and on roll of tape would prolly do at least a hundred ar's

    RP,

I use a paint pen and write "300 BLK" on the upper in a conspicuous spot. (I think I may add it on the inside and outside of the dust cover also.)

.223/5.56 Mags are metal GI only. 300 BO mags are Pmag only. .224 Valk and AR-10 Mags are paint pen'd as such.

I use a KAK on a couple of short barrels that sit just under the handguard. They work well when I am not running my suppressor on them.

At my house, 5.56/.223 ARs and their mags remain Black. All other calibers/ mags get painted and the.300 has ."300" printed on the mags and the gun with a sharpie.

I bought a stensil off of ebay and marked all my 300bo mags with it. I also picked up on ebay mag releases that have 300 bo stamped on them in white on the non button side. Just do a search for 300 black out mag release. Its small enough to not look goudy but noticeable enough that you couldn't get them mixed up. they also sell elastic markers that fit around your magazine that say 300 black out. My buddy even put one of those around his fore end to mark his. Only flash can I have is on a 9mm ar pistol. It does the job its suppose to but the 9mm doesn't have near the blast a 556 or 300 bo has. Id doest direct some of the noise and blast forward.

Until you can buy or make the appropriate dust covers buy one of these in a bright color, then use it on the barrel's caliber markings:

As to the covers, etch them yourself, this guy gets pretty involved with the stencils but simple ones are easier:

This can be done to the lower as well:
