One factor about the 7x61 S&H cartridge that was greatly appreciated at the time and could still be is the fact it will reliably feed from a standard unmodified 30-06 action such as the Springfield or Enfield. Sharpe said he designed it that way.

I am not far from Eglin AFB, the R&D center for the munitions center. One of their directors discovered I have a perfect condition Phil Sharpe first edition. Their copy was so well worn with pages missing they asked if they could borrow my copy to make a full copy of for their refrence computers. So today their reference library includes a copy of my copy of the Sharpe book.
The secret to that book, is the concepts derived from Henry Pope and Phil Sharpe that are still used in the design of modern munitions.
If you are looking for the forest, do not study a tree, stand back and look at all the trees.
In that Sharpe book is a picture of the US modern Penetrator bullet design, bet you did not know that, and the US paid the Swiss $50 K for the design, that was an original American design from the 1920s that the patent expired on, then was re-patented by the Swiss. Today it is the 5.56mm 62 grain penetrator bullet design.
