    lets do some theory......308 win,1/13,134 gc...velocity ??

ok lets let some of the brains and number crunchers go head to head with any known data form fellow shooters.
    here is the platform:
7.62x51 nato chamber( similar to 308 win)
quality parker hale 26" bbl, 1/13 twist, mauser action, good trigger, nice scope.
bullet is the lyman 311359. this is suppose to be a 115 gr but from
ww plus gc it is 134 and 0.820 long.

is there a target velocity( they are ww+tin and h2o cooled)
    100 yd shooting
and how do we get the velocity,,as in what powder?
and accuracy is the name of the game.....
i got some nice lapua prepped brass,
    some weight sorted boolits
some rem 9 1/2 primers( lots of others)

    let the crunching begin !
    only accurate rifles are interesting

Have never been much of a number cruncher, but always get a kick out of reading their thread. Sometimes I even attempt to make sense out of them, but not real often. My bottom line comes down to "if it comes out of the front of the tube, is consistant, and seeks the magic 1" at 100 yds I am probably happy". Will be interested in your replies.
    Happy Thanksgiving!

    Mike,

50-54 grains of IMR 4831 or RL19 with .5cc PSB ignited with a magnum pistol primer. Seat the bullet to lightly kiss the lands or you won't get good enough ignition and the load won't work. Pressure is between 30,000 and 36,000 psi. Somewhere between 2500 - 2650 fps.

Cut by two grains for rifle primer and drop 200 fps.

I use that boolit in my .300 Savage for plinking/small game hunting and it shoots about 2"-3" @ 100 yards in a 99 with a receiver sight which should be comparable to a .308. Powder charge is 7 grains of Hercules Unique which has never been chronoed, does right well head shooting squirrels, a bit overkill with body shots, but never had one excape after being hit. -JDL

I shoot the Lee ctl312-160-2R with 34gr Varget for 2100fps, is quite accurate and no problems with it.
I also shoot the Leec309-113-F in .303 Savage and 7.5x55 SR, 17gr of IMR 4227, and 10gr of Herco give about 1700fps and very good results, under 3/4" at 50 yds, no real difference between powders.
9gr of Universal gives about 1550fps and 1" or less at 50yds..
The 113gr bullet at those loads is like shooting a .22 magnum so far as recoil and noise and has a bunch more range of uses.
I would not hesitate to use the 4227 and Herco loads on feral pigs at less than 100 yds or on a rabbit or squirrel.
