What mould to get

for the 1891 and 1909 Argentine carbines and various .303 British rifles.
I have a .31141 Lyman for all .30 cals and am good to go with that boolit.
Hoping to get one mould to fit all in the .312 --.314 range. Maybe .316?
Plain base would be alright though Lee has nothing but gas check I think.
You guys have any favorites? Is there one boolit that will work good in all.
Need to get a mould on the way as my supply of full length cas check projectiles is getting low.
I mostly shoot paper and would expect to be able to drop any animal found here in Washington with about any cast boolit at reasonable velocity.

Jim at CBE just launch two .316 mouls in recent times. One is 175gr. The other 240gr.

..............From appearances it seems to me the 2 most favorite "Fat 30" moulds out there are the Lee C312-185R and the Lyman 314299. The Lee will cast to it's .312" descriptor and maybe a tad more with lino, and the Lyman is good for the .314" OD on the drive bands. Both seem (my copies) to drop at .302" on the bore rider.

Your desire for a mould dropping about .316" has been the desire of quite a few others as it has fostered a slew of "Fat, Fatter, and Fattest 30" moulds on the Group Buy forum. Onceabull has offered a couple suggestions, as has JeffinNZ. Yet mainstream domestic offerings are non-existant. Ie: Mainstream = Lee, Lyman, RCBS and Saeco.

One thing you can do is to size down from the next larger available caliber. This would be the 8mm. There are a couple 32's (.322") out there that might suit ya also. Both Lyman and Saeco offer them.

I have 2 M1909 Argie Cav carbines, or short rifles and one was afflicted with a too generous bore. It wanted a bore rider of .303". If a bore riders nose doesn't at least bear on the lands, your accuracy will be a tad casual or at least inconsistant. I used the Lyman 323470 design which is a mould for a 165gr Loverin RN. It drops from the mould with WW alloy about .324". I lube-sized it .323" and then ran it up through a Lee .314" size die. GC and all. Now I had a slug with no bore rider nose to contend with.

It did not turn the rifle into a tack driver but it did halve group sizes and it now shoots consistantly round groups of 1.5" or so at 50 yards. A big win-win situation for me.

I believe Buckshot has hit on the answer.
Iwill get a two hundredish grain 8mm mould, cause the 8mm rifles need boolits too.
Might just be the universal boolit.

Gotta oil up the little Atlas lathe and make some sizing dies.

Give Ranch Dog a try. I have the TLC311-165 RF and it casts at .314 for me with wheel weights. Runs on average 175 grains and has shot quite well out of four different Mosin Nagants so far.

Typical load of 16 grains, 2400.
