I just bought a gallon of 2 cycle synthetic oil for my outboard boat engine. Two problems solved.

Post #15 nailed it exactly how I keep the molds running. I’m a big q tip fan myself for applying sprue plate lube.

I use 2 stroke oil from the dollar store. looks and smells just like the NOE oil. I keep refilling the bottle from NOE. Couple of drops on a qtip will last most of the all day casting.

Does these synthetic oils leave a film on the metal when the mold is heated to casting temperature?

I've read where some casters use Permatex anti-seize. Anybody tried his?

Like most that use it, I apply the synth oil with Q-Tip while sprue plate is HOT (operating Temp). The solvents flash off in vapor in a few seconds, leaving a film. That film seems to last about 50 or so pours, then I reapply with same Q-Tip. I also reapply (top and bottom) right before I finish casting, for added rust prevention, during storage.

ANY Synthetic 2 Cycle Engine Oil fuel additive will work

I use STIHL 0781 313 8007 5.2 Ounce High-Performance Ultra 2 Cycle Engine Oil, for my yard tools, 1 jar will last several lifetimes. I keep it in a Steel Needle TIP Plastic Dropper Bottles, so I can put just a micro drop on the sprue plate hinge and not worry about it migrating into the nearest cavity

That's for the link to the needle bottles a while back - I find them as you mentioned just right to apply sprue plate lube to the sprue plate screw .
I use and have used never seize on a molds sprue plate , it works just fine . I just use it on the top and bottom of the plate just a dab on a old rag applied when cold then wiped off as much as possible .
Around my casting area I have multiple objects to aid in the process
Q-tips , #2 pencil , a little bee's wax , a short candle , needle bottle full of bull plate , a old rag to wipe off the sprue plate lube after applying , & a stick just in case it needs a wack .
