    Henry/Skinner sight

I just put a Skinner Express on my Big Boy .45 colt. Seeing I won't be able to get to the range for awhile...I was just wondering about others' experience with them. Did you have to change the front sight?

    .

Except for Henry's issued with a receiver peep sight, the top-mounted Skinner receiver sights present a higher line-of-sight than the issue barrel sights, and ergo require a front sight blade taller than the issue sight in order to achieve zero.

IME, the replacement front sight blade should be about .10" (+/-) taller; and it's an excellent opportunity to change out the front sight type for a different type (Ivory bead, Gold bead, Fiber-optic, Sourdough Patridge, etc) that may be more to your liking.

On the Henry Big Boy .44 Mag, I bought the express peep sights and had to get a larger front sight as well. I ordered the suggested one, and it worked great.

Thanks fellas. I ran a string through the peep, over the Buckhorn and to the front bead....boy, it's gonna be awfully close. It's currently 18° here and the wind is wailing. Trigger finger sure has an itch that needs some attention.
