    Too many variables to say.

What alloy? Powder coating isn't majic. You still need proper fit to the throat and an alloy that is suitable for the velocity goal.

A really tough Cu enriched alloy with a good fit can be driven about as hard as any jacketed with a few exceptions. I love the 358 Winchester myself. I have used jacketed data with no fouling. My alloy is WW's and copper babbit.

Try that with a 6.5 Swede and you won't find the same holds true.

So. What caliber, bullet, alloy, and size throat are you working with.

    I have 223 's running 2700
    300 Blackout at over 1900
    308s at 2500
    358s at 2369
    45-70's at 1600 FPS

as noangel said alloy for the intended job and FIT are still king
most of my projectiles are sized .003 over groove size

    all MOA or better

98% coww 2% hi speed babbit (for the tin and copper) for all above execpt 45-70 those are 49/49/2
Gas checked, PC,Ed and then sized

223 is 1-7 twist 16" barrel Sig 516 Piston gun

I try to pick powders in the lower pressure range .. it seems to help in accuracy dept

I'm shooting up to 2200 fps with smokes Carolina blue in my ruger 77/357 using 125gr round nose lee boolits. No gas check. No leading and the coating is staying on. Fit is the key.

I'm experimenting with PC'd cast bullets and swage dies. So far my best results have been to use the point forming swage die and punch to square up the gas checks prior to PC. While I can alter the bullet profile to the point where lube grooves are nearly eliminated and a classic spitzer shape is achieved, accuracy seems better if I barely alter the original Lee profile, just enough to squeeze out any potential voids and flaws and change the meplat a bit. My alloy is of unknown hardness, somewhere around what wheel weights would be. My guess is, the faster you go the harder they have to be if you use a pointier bullet. I have driven them (both 308 and 224) to 2500 plus with no leading but accuracy with this alloy at these velocities is inconsistent and usually 2 to 3" at 100yds. The problem may be fit though, as I am keeping them at .3085 and .2245, which is how they come out of the swage die. I will have to get .311 and .225 Lee push through sizers to see if accuracy improves.

I would bet that if you bumped that finish size up to 309-310 you would see accuracy improvement

When working with cast projectiles (that have not been swaged to squeeze out any voids/imperfections), you will have to consider that a maximum RPM could be a stumbling point too. That will open the group exponentially as the distance increases and will not pattern. They can go off course in any direction.
I think we have seen that the PC (properly applied) will stay on the cast and I don't think we can push them fast enough to affect the PC like speed and RPM can sling a copper jacket or an electroplated projectile.
Fit is King, yes...but, is there a point where we oversize our rounds so much that we are depending on the swaging in the throat more so than depending on obturation to help seal the bore?

    Interesting thread...gotta luv this stuff!

I'm hoping that's the case Smoke. It would be easier for me to get the accuracy by adjusting fit than by increasing hardness. There's a limit to what a swage die can handle pressure wise and I really don't want to break one!
