    .

Yep - a .54 pack more punch than a .50, and is lighter to boot due to the somewhat thinner barrel wall thickness.

The handiwork on your gun is awesome !

If you been to the museum of the fur trade in Chadron Nebraska that rifle would fit right in (at the lighter end and its too purty) among the mountain man guns on display there ---36 and 38 inch barrel flintlocks from 54 to 68 calibre (from memory) - half and full stock -----my thoughts at the time was "what are we doin foolin round with those puny little 50 cal "Hawkens" .......................................

RFD, your rifle is a thing of wonder and beauty! I have often thought of building such a rifle, halfstock, flintlock and in the white. Yours turned out just as I would have imagined it. Thanks for sharing!

On a side note; I met Ed Hamburg at the Lewis and Clark museum outside of Alton, IL. There was a reenactment at the museum, he had quite the display. Later won some barrels on eBay. Ended up the seller was Ed, so I went to his house to pick up the barrels to save on shipping cost. I thoroughly enjoyed the visit! Very knowledgeable fellow!!!
