Hodgdon's has data for a Lyman 250 gr bullet using H322. They list 24.0 to 27.0 grs (max). 27.0 grs is listed as having 27.6 kcup pressure. IMR 3031 should work as well with charge wt's roughly in line with H322. Have to track down some data on that one. AA 5744 should also work well. Check Accurate's site for data there.

Measure you bullets and the bore, the last Hi Wall I had in was 380 in the bore.

Can't talk for everybody, but going over 30 grs of 3031 or above 1500 fps with, any powder, I've had better luck with a gas checked bullet, like the Lyman 375449. With the bullet you have and powders listed, 18.0 grs of 5744 would be a good starting point, if it fits the bore properly. Can't say on the other powders, never have used any of them in the 38-55. Can say that 41-2 grs of Swiss 2F, with a .030" wad and a little compression should be a good load for it also, if you re-lube with a good BP lube.

What diameter are your Lazer Cast, if they are under 380 your load may not make any difference. I have a box of these and tey are sized .379 they are too small for the Marlin or the Highwall. If they by chance fit I would try 10.0 of Unique first as this has always been a good accurate load in all my 38055's this should give about 1300 fps. Trail Boss will be slow but may be accurate. With plain base bullets i like 26 grains of IMR 3031. Imr 4895 is also a good one with about 27-30 grains. McLintock has the BP end nailed as that load has been an excellent groupping load in all the 38-55's I've shot.

My old Marlin Ballard (7xxx) will only shoot a boolit over .382 without help ... unless I use soft lead and black powder. I can shoot .380- .382 using smokeless only if I fill the airspace with COW. Then its good to 75 yards.

My Marlin Cowboy likes 9 grains of Unique and a 250 gr. FNPB bullet for 1382fps. or 21 grains of 4198 for 1380fps.
Reloader 7 is also good, I use 28 grains with a 260 grain FPGC, this goes 1850fps.

I used to hunt with a Winchester wrangler, first generation angle eject, loop lever(HA !) carbine. My load duplicated the old HV lead bullet load with the RCBS 37-250-fn GC with 50/50 lube, WLR, and 32 grains of AA2495. Nicely accurate, deadly on deer. BvT
Every lawbreaker we allow into our nation, or tolerate in our citizen population leads to the further escalation of law breaking of all kinds and acceptance of evil.
Since almost all aspects of our cultural existence are LIBERAL in most states, this means that the nation is on a trajectory to dissolution by the burden of toleration and acceptance of LAWBREAKING as a norm, a trajectory back to the dark ages of history.

I knew that Rosemary Clooney sang............but never knew that Nick's wife sang.

My original Marlin 1893's both have .379" bores. With 375248 I can shoot them as cast at 1200 fps for plinking with 20:1 alloy. Red Dot, Green Dot, Unique are all good cowboy load powders. I would move up to IMR 3031 with a hardcast bullet.

I have never had any luck with Laser Cast bullets, except for the 170gr 30-30 GC bullet. I certainly don't care for BB bullets. Give me a PB any day over a BB.
