    Your battle rifle

This is not a judgment;not a thread about which platform/caliber/flavor is the best, not about AR vs AK vs HK93 nope just an honest question from me to folks I care about;Y'all!
is your "battle"rifle is fighting shape? Does it NEED anything to be functional? Can you hit repeatedly and routinely at moderate distance from field positions? Spare parts and components laid in? If it wears glass to you have good ready to go iron sights or a back up scope ready to go? Magazine and round count are totally subjective but do you have mags and ammo laid in? Is it a true and tested rifle not finicky and prone to breakage? It need not be a "tack driver" but must above all put metal on meat with a cold bore, dirty wet bore in heat and cold, so at the very least it must meet the requirements of your opening day squirrel rifle, does it? If yes carry on; if no then get to work!

My M1A is ready. Scope and open sights both sighted in. Plenty of ammo and spare magazines.

Mine is up to par I guess . I doubt I have enough ammo but then if I did I'd need a battalion to protect it and 3 Deuce and a halfs to haul it . Life is good and I have pairs of most of the essentials .

Never been in the military but spent lots of time hunting and target shooting. My "battle rifle" is any one of a few different .30 WCF lever actions in my battery and yes, they are sighted in and ready to roll. If I had to be in a gunfight today my weapon of choice over any other (including NFA forbidden fruit) would be a Marlin 336 with a receiver sight and as many of my pet handloads as I could carry.
    Currently casting and loading: .32 Auto, .380 Auto, .38 Special, 9X19, .357 Magnum, .257 Roberts, 6.5 Creedmoor, .30 WCF, .308 WCF, .45-70.

Yep......Trapdoor, 43 roller and Argentine Mauser are all dialed in, and plenty well fed. C&B revolvers are also ready to roll. And, er....uh...might be a few surprises laid in as well.

Yup, mine is ready for action. Ammo loaded, mags loaded, rifle clean and functional. Like the others, I hope it never comes to this! But, I was an Eagle Scout! Be Prepared!

it would take me more than 15 minutes to decide what everyone should be carrying.
I don't know where I'd be going and there ain't no sense passing everyone coming this direction just to see how bad it is there.

    Is my battle rifle ready?

    Which one?

Perhaps I should just quote Hank junior...

I live back in the woods you see
The woman and the kids and the dog and me
I got a shotgun a rifle and a four wheel drive
And a country boy can survive.

    Yes, they're ready.

However, they are bolt actions from pre-WWI to WWII, so I don't know how relevant they'd actually be in a fight. They do get used at least semi-regularly for shooting chores.

I probably should build an AR. Never had one and can appreciate their utility.

    Regards,

    Josh

"A" battle rifle wouldn't amount to much of a battle but some I have would be better better than others if you were by yourself, stuck in one spot and trying to slow an advance.

Still wouldn't hold out that long without at least one extra person.

Don't worry a bit. If you can aim, they are relevant.

I will concede that a lot of cover tends to become concealment when viewed from the perspective of a main battle rifle.

I've imagined trying to fight volume fire with old turnbolts and can't do it.

For my uses, a short M1A would make a lot of sense. An AR would, too, but for me I'd want a regular, a1 or a2 configuration, pencil barrel and all.

I can hit nicely with the MBRs.

    Regards,

    Josh

Ive got a few ARs and other guns to choose from but if shtf id probably grab my stag ar15. It wears a comp 3 aimpoint, is very accurate and runs flawlessly.
