Was a caster for about 40 years, averaging 2500 rounds a month, this is based upon primer receipts. Probably even higher as it often happened to gift or be coerced to sell a box(750 per) on occasion. Now a dabbler? My usage now is reduced to around 500 castings a month on average. Kinda gotta question the ranking.

I guess I dabble. I have a dozen molds, most 2 and 4 cavity and a 20# pot. I cast a few hundred at a time and usually load them in lots of 500 or 1000. My smelting set up will handle 400# at a time. It takes me about an hour from the time I light the burner until the pot is empty.

Just a beginner here, 1 mold (.360 roundball) and a couple hundred cast objects. I hope to do more next year. A bit cold for casting these days.

well when you have 8-9 brand new left hand gloves sitting there you start trying stuff..
I tried casting left handed, it probably looked like I was kung-fu fighting steven segal from the back.
turning the left hand gloves inside out kind of works.
it for sure works a lot better than the tape.

Maybe if you tried casting in a mirror you could fool yourself into thinking you were casting right handed. . .

I have the same problem with gloves. I more or less just slide them further up on my hand until it becomes too difficult to use them. I have 3 brand new in the box left hand gloves.
Im a caster. I run u too the pots empty and it never is these days.

I just throw the left hand glove away when I buy a new pair. I will wear both occasionally so I don't toss it right away. But there is no point in keeping around gloves that get no use.

Amateur Dabbler here, I cast @ 1,000 boolits a year to feed my single shot, lever guns and revolvers. And I have a lightly used leather left hand glove free to good home.

I always thought the term `dabbler` referred to a duck on a shallow pond? Old age and medical problems has reduced me to a `Fair Weather Caster`, you know what I mean 65 degrees or a bit warmer when I do a 5 gal. pail or so at a time smelting then casting.Robert

Dedicated dabbler. I wear both gloves. Why not? Ain't hurting anything to have both gloves on, they came as a pair, and besides I'm just too slow a learner to remember NOT to reach for the sprue that falls on the floor with the wrong hand. Face protection for sure.

I'm using a ladle, I used to use it over a 100 lb. pot on propane burner, now it's over a 20 lb. electric that I can use seated, and if I'm going to have my lap and hot lead in the same vicinity I will wear a leather apron, thank you very much. I find uses for a pair of thick leather gloves, and a pair of thin leather gloves. Thick is better for handling fresh ingots being dumped that is for sure.

Scrap.... because all the really pithy and emphatic four letter words were taken and we had to describe this source of casting material somehow so we added an "S" to what non casters and wives call what we collect.

Kind of hard to claim to love America while one is hating half the Americans that disagree with you. One nation indivisible requires work.

I only wear one glove to cast with also, but it's just a cotton garden glove.
