Herco was the first powder I ever used. Dad and I brought home a pound or so in a paper sack to use with the 20 ga Lee Loader.

I use A LOT of Herco powder. 12, 20, 28 gauge shotshells and medium-heavy loads in Magnum revolver calibers use up 3-4 pounds per year here.
I don't paint bullets. I like Black Rifle Coffee. Sacred cows are always fair game. California is to the United States what Syria is to Russia and North Korea is to China/South Korea/Japan--a Hermit Kingdom detached from the real world and led by delusional maniacs, an economic and social basket case sustained by "foreign" aid so as to not lose military bases.
I haven't seen Herco since Christ was a corporal.

I have been using Herco since the 60's. 12ga, 380, 9mm, 38sp, 357mag, 44mag, 45acp, and just recently 308 sub sonic.

Don't overlook the 12 gage slug load over herco load .
I remember what Felix used to say, "Just treat Herco like a slow lot of Unique."
He was right.
It ain't rocket science, it's boolit science.
I have to agree with this...
I have been able to find Herco in just about every local gun shop at one point or another straight through the last shortages.
I have a small stash of Herco kept back as an emergency reserve in case I ever couldn't get my most used powders.
Thankfully, it never came to that as I was able to not only continue my shooting and reloading with no restrictions but was actually able to add to my powder and primer supplies during the aforementioned shortages.
Still, it gives me a good feeling to look in the powder magazine and know that I have several different powders that I can work up loads with to continue shooting if I should need to. Those canisters of powder are paid for and don't take up all that much space. I may even acquire a few more pounds of Herco just as an additional insurance policy.
If nothing else, it will give me some additional powder to experiment with in my looming retirement ( I just turned 62 a couple of weeks ago and am getting a lot of pressure to retire early from my wife). To be totally honest, the whole idea of retirement is looking better and better every day.
Herco the do all powder...... Been using Herco in all my shot shells for, not sure how long been decades for sure. As for Herco and cast boolits, they go hand and hand as far as I'm concerned. Started casting handgun and Herco was the go to powder. Helped several guys start loading for handgun, got them all to used Herco in there 380, 9mm, 40s&w and 45acp you can't double charge a case, if you do there is a mess to clean up.

I use Herco for 2 1/2 inch 20 gauge ammo, works well and is milder on the recoil

Powder valley has had it in stock for months.. first in 1's and 8's and right now only in 8's.. I ordered some from PVI back in April and it has been in continuous stock there since then.
a few years back a large local gunshop got into some legal trouble and went out of business . all there inventory was 70% off ,powder was pretty much picked over by the time I got there but I did manage to snag 2 lb of hp38 ,1 lb of universal , and 7 lb of herco . it worked out to under 6$ each for the 1 lbers and a 4 lber for 13$ on the herco . ive found it to be pretty versatile for several handgun calibers but where I like it most is in 40 s&w with the lee 175 gr swc bullet . I also like it for lead bullet loads in my 35 marlin, I'm down to 2 1/2 maybe 3 lb left of the 4 lb jug . I wish i'd known then what I know now about other powders, I remember seeing several 8 lb kegs of pb there that went unsold even at 70% off
Man.. unsold PB.. that breaks my heart since I loved to load PB.. it was sort of similar performance wise to Unique in a 12 gauge. Back in the old days of loading steel shot, Ballistic Products had a temperature stable load with PB that threw 7/8 of an ounce of steel at 1400 fps with the old Activ hull. I shot a fair number of ducks with that load.
Hmm.. I guess I need to drag my old MECjr presses back out..
yes I like pb too ive used it in 12 gauge as well . but I also like it for 9mm revolver loads to shoot out of my Blackhawk convertible . I'm currently working on a load with pb and a little 160 gr bullet for 45 colt . I managed to scrounge up 9 lb of pb before it was discontinued . unfortunately I didn't know anything about it at the time of the sale so I left it sit .
Oddly enough, after making my post above, I found 5# of PB from a local who was buying anything he could get when there was no powder.. He never worked up a load for it and I picked up all 5#.
Winchester 2 3/4 in mark 5 plastic, alcan no 1 flite max wad , 28 grains Herco, 1 5/8 oz no 6 shot.
The best duck load I ever used. Some tables listed this as a 3 in mag load, others as a 2 3/4. I stopped duck hunting when they outlawed lead shot.

_________________________________________________It's not that I can't spell: it is that I can't type.
I just cut the top off a metal can of Herco and dumped the rest of it in another metal can.
the old cardboard tube type jugs made good storage for shot.
I still have 3 of them out in the shop.
I cut a window [about 3/4X1"] in the top tube and side then would rotate the top to close it but the little window is just right for pouring shot into the ponsess shot tubes.
the one pictured above with the top cut out [metal top and bottom] makes a neat little garbage can for the reloading room.
the one I use now is from 231.
