    Hey guys,
Looking for cast boolit recipes for 338 win mag.
    Thanks,

Do you have a specific mold or a weight in mind?

Do you just want to have a light shootable load or are you going for distance and big game?

I use a 250 grain GC bullet that was made by BRP (no longer in business). I found 13 grains of Red Dot give me 1475 fps and 1.5" at 85-90 yards. This works fine for me in my backyard shooting off sticks at hanging steel. This is out of a Win 70 with a 4x scope. There is hardly any recoil and my 55 pound 9 year-old has shot these with no discomfort.

I will try 2400 one of these days. I suspect it will be close to Red Dot performance.

I have used IMR4895 and a filler finding good results at about 1800 fps (about 1.5-2" at 100 yards). I forget the weight of the powder. This is with the same bullet and is a pretty good hunting load for me in Oklahoma.

I'd like to try some 50BMG powder one of these days.

Yeah, I am just looking for loads to practice with. Paying over 2 bucks a shot for jacketed ammo is ridiculous.

My best with cast in .338 WM is the Lee 200 Gr. GC sized .339" (mine weigh 190 grains in linotype alloy), 40 grains IMR 4198, CCI 200 primer, and a tuft of Kapok over the charge. These chronograph at 2350 fps. in my Ruger 77, and generally 2" groups at 100 yards.

Do you use any fillers with the red dot or unique loads? Anyone use 2400? I am going to try the LEE boolit first.

    Lee 220 grainer
    34.0 3031 1625
    39.0 3031 1872
Velocities are from chrono data for these two loads. The 39.0 is the MOST accurate I have shot with the 338 Mag other than same load using the (discontinued) coated Hornady 200 FP made for the 33 Winchester.

These loads came to me by way of winelover . . .
    200 grain cast
    4759 27 1808 29 1930
    5744 28 1815 38 2302

My best (most accurate) loads with both of these loads and the RCBS 200 grainer was close to the lower load level and in my recent spate of poor note taking I do not know the exact load.

Lyman Cast Boolit manual shows a Red Dot and Unique loading of

    Red Dot
    12.0 1320 16.0 1575

    Unique
    14.0 1400 19.5 1705

Good luck, it will perform at those lower levels, especially for paper punchin, and rock pulverizin and is fun to shoot.

I had some Blue Dot loads also but they seem to be "lost in the wind"

    no filler needed.
you could work a load of 2400 easy enough.
I'd start at 20 and move up towards 25 that should get you in the 17-1800 area.

I have been taking my 338 WM to NCBS for years and everyone who has shot it at the 400 yard gong has liked it. I am shooting the Lee 220 gr boolit, of course. My favorite load is 29 gr of 5744 but 30.5 gr of RE-7 shoots almost as well. The velocity is around 1800 fps. In my rifle, that CB won't stabilize the boolit at 1650 FPS muzzle velocity or lower. I find it remarkable only a 150 FPS increase in velocity will allow me to bounce a 5 gal paint bucket at 600 yards with iron sights but at 1650 the boolits turn sideways. One of these days I have promised myself to buy that 270 gr mold from Accurate (maybe even a Xmas present from me to me). For me, the biggest problem was finding enough iron sight adjustment to shoot the CB.

I have got nothing short of phenominal groups with an Accurate 240gr that I had Tom make up for my 338ME, but worked wonders in my 338WM. I use 4759, mag primer, and a pretty max charge for 2000fps
