Well, you have an education coming! The use of 310 tools is ... different! Have you handloaded before? If so, you know the steps involved, now you just need to learn how to do it using the 310 tools. Here is a link to a scan of the chart area of an older Lyman manual.
    http://www.castpics.net/subsite/Lyma...kReference.jpg

First thing you need to learn is there are many, many variations and inconsistencies in the 310 dies! First thing to learn is there is a version intended for a bench mounted press called the Tru-line Jr. the decapping stem of these dies has an added expander ball added and this type die cannot be used in the hand tool, it lacks the leverage to extract the case over the expander, so watch for those.
Early die sets for the hand tool consisted of a decapper die that may or may not also resize the neck only part of the case. Later dies will be marked CMR for Combined Muzzle Resizer. The earlier sets had a MR die, a muzzle resizer die, sometimes marked with the caliber and the letters MR. It is usually a short die and does not have a threaded portion at the top. The next die used is the expander die, it is threaded to take a plug that expanded the case for the boolit you plan to use and lastly is the DA die, the double adjustable which seated the boolit and does a slight crimp. There is also the primer die and the adapter ring that fits the caliber you are using. The adapter ring is for later handles that were usually aluminum, early handles didn't use a ring as there were made of steel for a certain caliber. Believe it or not, this is just an introduction, ask questions as you encounter problems!

[QUOTE=Malamute;5435020]Looking for a complete set of 44-40 310 dies with handles.

Also would like any of the 44-40 dies individually, particularly the expander.

Have a complete 8mm mauser set with handles in the orange box for trade, it looks new, unused.

Still looking for 25-06 or 257 die set.[/Q

I can set you up with a .257 Roberts set.

The older Lyman reloading handbooks covered the techniques in detail. Somewhere I have a NRA booklet on reloading from the 1960s also. Cornell Publications might have reprints. I've become rather enamoured of them myself, for loading some of the old pistol rounds like .32 Colt and .38 Special at the range. (Yeah, Froggy, I know - there never were factory dies for the .32 Colt, so I made some.) I bless the days many years ago when I used to scoop handles off gunshow tables for peanuts.

Years ago I assembled a list of as many die code numbers as I could find. Lyman never released a numerically complete list, but I gathered most in one place. There should still be a copy of it in the Castpics archives at the bottom of this page. Let me know if you’re unable to find it and I’ll see whether I saved an electronic copy on my laptop.

Have a set of .270 dies with steel handle and box marked 270. Would trade for 22 hornet or 32-20. Condition is fair, with a little light rust. Have wire brushed the worst area of rust on the handle and the bluing is a little thin but mostly still there. Would trade dies only if you don't need the handle. Have considered machining the handle to accept the adapter rings used with the aluminum handles. Do not expect immediate response, am away from home thru the week working on my new house.

The comments on the use of the 310 dies are good, Ill just add that when i first started using a set in 45-70 in the 1970s I was breaking decapping pins and couldnt get them adjusted to completely alleviate it, so just bought one of the Lee Loader decapping punch and base sets and kept with my 310 tools. I havent broken a 310 decapping pin since then, since I havent used them since then. For my travel kit I keep the 22 cal decapping rod as its lighter.

When on the road I sometimes take the RCBS full length size die along, I can often go to a friends place to borrow a bench press to at least size as needed, then complete loading with the 310 at my leisure. I have the Lyman full length sizers in several calibers, and take them in the road kit, but its nice having options.

I would very much like to find a .25-20 muzzle resizer #10
Also a .257 or .258 expander PLUG - (don't need the whole die.)

Have to trade any of the following:

    .30 carbine priming chamber
.30 carbine double adjustable (marked 30 M1 DA)
    .38 S&W double adjustable (marked 38 S-W DA)
    .22 Hornet double adjustable #165
    .30-06 double adjustable #123

All used but undamaged, no rust, all threaded parts free and smooth.

I am in need of a .266 Lyman 310 push through bullet sizing die - I'm playing with two nice very early Arisaka Type 38 Rifles and need one to go with my 6.5 Japanese 310 set so I can crimp on gas checks.

My 310 spare parts are pretty thin as far as trading stock but I can see if I have anything a person might need or I can purchase it if you have one to part with.

    Thanks.

    Jim

Found the expander - still need the muzzle resizer.

I recently found a 218 bee and 25-20 cmr dies so need seaters and full set of 32/20 I have two TruLine Presses one old or first gen someone updated and a more recent version.

I have a number of die sets to sort thru and may have extra Hornet dies and 30/06 as well as a few alloy handles and one steel handle as fodder.

    Thanks CW

My priming pin /collar/ thread broke off of my .45-70 Tru Line expanding die right at the expander button. Anyone got an extra stem they can spare ? I would really love to find a .459 stem but would be more than happy with a.458 button like is in it now. Thanks.
