The Greatest Generation is Diminished by 1

Not a family member, but a great man that taught several generations of Junior shooters the ways of the rifle.

    John C. Tittle Jr.
    1925 - 2008
John C. Tittle Jr. passed away peacefully at his home Monday, May 19, 2008.
Service: 11 a.m. Saturday at Wedgewood Baptist Church, Fort Worth. Interment: 1 p.m. in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, Dallas. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Laurel Land Funeral Home.
Memorials: Youth Ministry at Wedgewood Baptist Church or a charity of choice, in lieu of flowers.
John, nicknamed "Jack," was born Oct. 11, 1925, in Austin to John and Lilian Tittle. While growing up in Austin, he and his brother worked with their dad in his well-drilling business. Spending much time in the country, they developed a love of hunting and fishing. John entered the United States Army in 1944 at the age of 18. He arrived in Belgium in November 1944 as an infantry soldier. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge and in eastern Germany. He received two Purple Hearts, the Bronze Star and three campaign ribbons. He received orders to attend Officers Training School but the war ended before these orders were carried out. In 1952, he earned his master's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Texas, married Christine Smith and went to work for Convair (later named General Dynamics and Lockheed). He retired from Lockheed after 40 years of service.
He spent nearly 50 years teaching hunting and firearms safety to young people so they could safely and responsibly enjoy the sport he so loved. He will be remembered for his love of God, country, friends and family. He will be missed by all.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Robert Tittle.
Survivors: Wife of 56 years, Christine Tittle of Fort Worth; daughter, Janice Utterback and husband, Bob, of Rowlett; son, John Tittle and wife, Danna, of Keller; granddaughters, Victoria, Deborah, Rebecca and Jeanette Utterback; and grandson, Wyatt Greene.

This generation not only won a world war but rebuilt the world afterwards. God bless him and his fellow veterans this Memorial Day.

We can only pray that the youth He taught and inspired will continue the legacy and life style He was committed to . There are to few left that served so bravely and honorably. Bless him and family. James
