    Sinker Score

They did a cleanup at my local fishing pier this morning. Divers recovered a whole bunch of sinkers along with the tons of lost and discarded fishing line and other gear.

The organizers were letting people have at the stuff.

I figure I got 40#. I didn't want to be greedy with others interested, and it was a long walk with that bucket.

I've heard fishermen are not opposed to using zinc in their lead weights. Is that the case in your area?

I cast sinkers by the hundred, I use the lead I get from a chemical plant. It's not good for much
else, high zinc content, maybe other alloys. When hit with hammer on hard surface cracks will
open in it. Normal alloys would just flatten. You can melt it and keep skimming the zinc off the
top, but not worth the effort. No good for jigs or spinner baits,ect- because won't flow and fill detail.

I have some sorting to do. Some of these will just be re used for fishing after I inspect them. The damaged ones and sizes I don't use will be melted.

Most of the commercial sinkers I've seen have been dead soft. I may just use them for dive weights.
