    Lyman .357" Wadcutter

    I have obtained a 50 rnd box of cast Lyman .357" wadcutters. (Sized.358") http://www.lymanproducts.com/lyman/b....php?entryID=8

I have only used the standard factory hollow-base wadcutters in .38 special, and .357 mag in my 4" Model 19 S&W revolver. (With superb accuracy at TARGET velocity!)

I have looked in the Lyman manuals, and I find they list loads that are very HIGH velocity with the solid base wadcutter!

Anyone have experience with this bullet at high velocity, and is there any real advantage in doing so?

    Kevin

    that's the 358091.
I push it pretty hard with unique and a sp magnum primer.
it still makes nice clean holes.
and they stay pretty close to one another.

you don't have to push it fast but it will take it.

I'm currently using a flat base variation of that bullet from a 4 cavity mold using range scrap.
I have run it with up to 4.0 grains of WST
I am currently running 3.5 grains of WST
I try to keep them so I don't have to delead the barrel less than every 500 rounds -ish
    Very accurate design

While I use the older Lyman 358495 WC, I think you find that Red Dot/Promo 5.0 gr will give excellent results in a .357 Mag case with that 150 gr. WC.

You can run them slow or fast either one. The higher velocities give better accuracy at longer ranges than the slower ones.
I get best accuracy above 850 fps.

I love the Lyman 358091 with imr 4227. I push these hard and they take it. Great accuracy. Zero leading in my SW 686. Sized to .358.

Run them up to around 850 with 4.0 grains of Unique. Still seems mild.
I bought my mold used years ago for $15. One side of the handle was broke.
