    Buckshot pellets per layer calculator...

Ran across this handy online tool for determining the number of buckshot pellets that will fit inside a given inside wad diameter.

    For example:
The inside diameter of the non-tapered BP CLBC wad is .620". The largest size for an even three pellet stack is .287".

This is also why a two pellet per layer stack works very well with conventional buckshot sizes.

Sweetness. Most useful. It should show why 00 buck dimples many/most wads/hulls. Thank you.

    Indeed so!

Now it is easy to visualize why Winchester reduced 00B to .323" * with the 1963 introduction of the Mark V plastic collar and plastic buffer to the Super X Buckshot line.

    * As reported by Jack O'Connor in The Shotgun Book (1965)

This game changing addition to the Super-X line was reported in the May 1963 issue of Guns Magazine:

The inside of the BPI CLBC wad "is" in fact tapered!

I load and shoot T shot in the CLBC wad and 7 pellets nestle perfectly in the bottom of the wad, with absolutely no movement between any of the pellets.

Each progressive row of pellets become looser and looser, and your 7th. row of 7 pellets all have a considerable gap between each of the pellets.

If I can get the pictures to download here on the forum, I can show exactly what I am talking about, if anyone is interested in the stacking of T shot in a CLBC wad.

The use of a gas seal, fiber base wad, plastic wrap makes for a lot of room in the hull, and simply fantastic patterns.

Corn meal makes for some really great filler material.
