I've been oogaling over auction pictures of those browning 53's for years now but have yet to shell out the $$$ needed to bring one home. I've yet to see one in person at a gun shop. but they sure are very fine rifles

Mine shoots as good as it looks. I changed the rear sight to a full buck horn, makes seeing a bit better for me.

Attachment 295404I just bought a custom varmint gun. It’s got a fiberglass stock a Howa 1500 action w/ a SS Hart 1-14 twist barrel.
It has a good aftermarket trigger and is a heavy 12 lbs. It was originally built in a wildcat round and since has been cut back and rechambered to 243 Win. I got it for way less than just the barrel blank cost, hope it’s a shooter.

Just found a good price on a Ruger Super Redhawk Alaskan as a donor platform. Headed to Bowen Custom to install an Anaconda barrel in 45 and have the cylinder reamed to 45 Colt with .4525 throats.

I picked up one of Uberti’s English Styled Courtney Stalking Rifle in 303 British, based on the 1885 falling block action. It should arrive in a few days time, I HOPE!

Remington 700 BDL SA heavy varmint, 26” barrel in 243 has a newer X Mark Rem trigger, someone forgot to adjust it below 6 pounds. I have a few mods to do, pull the barrel, cut to 24”, re-crown, thread muzzle 5/8x24, Carekote with Granite black, replace the trigger with a new Jard single set. Replace the stock, with a good quality solid and stable stock.
I do not prefer synthetic, so probably will turn a new wood stock on the duplicator, glass bed, free float, etc.

I bought a Bergara B14R .22LR rifle this week and took it to the range Saturday. I have a good supply of .22LR standard velocity ammo but not a great deal of the premium stuff. Even with the cheap stuff I was getting great groups at 50 yards. My next trip to the range (Wed or Thurs) I'll move over to the 100 and 200 yard ranges.

Attachment 298352Attachment 298353I went to a gun auction this past Saturday with some friends and ended up buying 4 rifles. In the pic with 3 rifles the top rifle is a Ethan Allen falling block in 44 rimfire. It has zero rifling left in the barrel but the gun is in otherwise good condition. I may reline it and chamber it to 44 Russian or 44 Spl. If it will fit in the receiver opening either loaded with BP. The middle rifle is a Allen & Wheelock falling block sporting rifle. This has the same design as the Ethan Allen both have the Sept.18 1860 patent date but this one is a real gem. It is so petite, only 5 1/2 lbs.and has a perfect bore and the wood is near perfect also it’s frame is a little shorter, narrower, the barrel profile slimmer and is in 32 rimfire, actually I believe they called it lipfire because the case was made of copper and had only a small lip with the priming mixture in it so you had to line it up at the top of the chamber because that’s where the firing pin struck the lip. This gun has a 2 digit serial number and could have been made in 1860 as the Ethan Allen’s and the Forehand & Wadsworth guns came after the Allen & Wheelock.
The bottom rifle is a standard BSA no. 4 martini cadet rifle in 310 cal. It has a great bore and now I have a pair of them.
The last rifle was a gift to my wife. She seen that there were going to be 7 or 8 of these Camel rifles in the auction and when she seen photos of them online she told me she wanted one if they didn’t go to high so I got here this one. They were all different as one of the guys who went with me also bought one of the camel rifles but his had a shorter barrel but a lot more decoration inlayed into the stock. This one I bought my wife has a 46” barrel, is a flintlock and has animal bone inlays in the stock. As you can see in the picture that she is happy with her camel gun.
The modern guns that were sold went for very high prices but lucky for me the antiques went for a fraction of their value so I believe I made out well.
Problem is I already don’t have room to store all of the guns I have now and have no idea where these will go except the camel rifle will go on a wall as I will not try to fire that pipe bomb !

I guess a trade is like a purchase. A fellow I know wanted my AR-15 30x39, so we traded….I got his Win 94 XTR Big Bore 375, he bought in Alaska, he does not reload or cast, I do, we are fresh out of moose and brown bears in FL. It is a very nice old Win lever gun, a top eject, but OK. I have the bullets, Star Line brass and a mold and dies for sizing, a top punch, all I need is the time to get to it and to return the bore to bright steel in preparation for the PCed cast bullets.
