10/22 parts

I visited a friend last week. While we were talking I noticed a rifle in pieces. He said it was the left over parts from a project he was doing and I could have the parts if I wanted them. He had removed the bolt and receiver from a Ruger 10/22 and I now have the remains at my house. The barrel and trigger looks used but usable, but he did some trimming on the stock. I know the 10/22 is priced reasonable in any store so what do I do with what I have? Should I try to find the missing parts and put it back together or just sell the parts and put some more cash with it and buy a new 10/22?

Someone might have a project for the barrel but takeoff barrels aren't worth much as they are often upgraded as is the trigger.

Not sure you have much of value.

How old was the 10/22? The older versions has better trigger assemblies. They went great, but better than what comes on them now.

I'd sell the parts if possible, it seems like everybody that modifies a 10-22 replaces the same parts. Then buy a different rifle, but then I don't particularly care for 10-22's.

I'd build it up the way you like it over time...

You can literally replace every part on a factory Ruger 10/22 with an aftermarket part.

Only problem is a guy can buy a complete 10/22 for the cost of a receiver and bolt. I'd sell the parts personally. For the right price I may be interested in the trigger group.

Once you build one off a Non Ruger receiver you'll never go back. The older receivers were OK to so so. Newer receivers starting with serial prefix 357 and latter are for the birds. Even going conservative on piece parts you'll have as much in one as a 52 Winchester. The first time you get in a heavy varmint colony you will be glad you don't have a 52 Winchester.

I would guess your going to be into as much for a good used gun as you will be for a receiver for your parts.
