    Brass trap

I have been wanting to make a brass trap and looked for a commercial one. I want it primarily to catch 45ACP. The only commercial one that I have seen is the Caldwell Universal Brass Trap at $41 delivered. Has anyone here used one and what do you think? I need it for both standing and bench use. Any other brands?
I would like easy set up and light weight but not too light to blow over. I would also like to have it catch at least most .22 rim fire brass because my range is at home and my wife hates to see the brass on the patio or in the grass.

Heck, just make a butterfly catching hoop and mount it to an old adjustable light stand and hit the fabric store for some fine e netting. Either use some iron on seam sealant or maybe talk SWMBO into sewing it up for ya and your set.

I have been playing with the idea of making one. Using a long tarp and a few 2x2s. Making a kinda 90 degree shape. They should all hit the tarp or old blanket and fall to the ground on that one spot. I was going to make it with hinges so it was easy to move. It could fold close and store under your deck. 8 ft tall and 4 ft wide each section. One 8x8 tarp with 7 2x2s and a few screws. Some staples to fix the tarp. I bet you could get out of it for under 15 bucks.

I saw a photo of one a guy had made with Lace he bought at a fabric store.

Maybe that will help an idea spawn.

    Good luck.

Several years ago I made a brass trap out of clothes hangers and some plastic ham nets, made a rectangle and wrapped it with the net and made another loop for my hand. I would wear it on my hand and bend the hanger to align the rectangle to catch the cartridge coming out of the ejection port.

Maybe this is why I mainly shoot revolvers.

Somebody posted this a while back and I got one. It works good.

How big is the mesh on the HF tarp, and does it allow wind to pass freely? If so I can see using it for a brass catcher.

The problem with using almost any cloth and light weight stands to try to catch brass, is that cloth in a vertical orientation becomes a sail with any air movement.

Try this one, most of my Bullseye buddies have one of these. I made mine out of copper tube and a Wally World laundry bag cut to fit.

Did you hang it some how or just leave it on the ground? If you hung it do you have any pics?

I used a pvc frame and shade cloth, couple sandbags on the base. I have also hung shade cloth off of a pop up canopy.

Here is what use. It works, most of the time. Made with pvc, a wally world laundry bag and some plastic ties. Fastens to a camera tripod. I saw a photo and copied it from memory.

I'm looking for a piece of trampoline netting to hang up at the range. I'm gonna take some nails to hang it on and some clothes pins to keep it on the pins. I'll just hang it between the shooting stations.

Mesh on tarp is 1/8 in. The wind will go through it, but a strong wind will still pick it up. I had it attached to 2 metal fence poles I drove in the ground, leaving several feet for the brass to fall on to make it easy to pick up.
I shoot in the back of a field on the side of my house. We keep it cut with a finish mower, but Bahia grass still eats brass like driers eat socks.
