So, I have finally got around to using my new MP molds 10mm, 220 gr beauty. And I will say it is my 4th Mihec mold and 8th overall and maybe my favorite. I got about 80% keepers and fast. Anyway, I am now wanting to load some, and there's no data out there for 220 gr lead SWC. I have basically longshot to use for powder (also have universal and 2400).
Longshot data that I collected from various internet sources as MAX loads (note - probably above book!):
180 gr XTP up to 9.6-9.8 gr
200 gr XTP up to 9.4 gr
I'd probably stop well shy of those - I don't need nuclear loads.
From this website, 215-220 gr boolit, 1240 fps, 750 ft-lbs, COL 1.2585, longshot 8.6 gr.
I'd like to put together a bunch of lower-power loads, and also some high-power hunting loads (black bear and hogs to 300+lbs if possible, at least comfortable with 150 lb deer and 200 lb hogs as a minimum).
My plan then is to start around 8.0 grains longshot and work up to 8.6 grains. One issue is that depending on which HP I use I get 115 gr, 120 gr, and 125 gr boolits. I'd like to stop at the max safe level for the heaviest boolits - ie 1 load for all weights.
This is the first time I've loaded 'off the books', so I'm hoping to learn from some of the wealth of experience that's out there.
Thanks for the advice.
