    220 gr. PP for 30-30

    Gentlemen,
I recently acquired a model 1889 Schmidt-Ruben re-chambered in .30-30 I have a "Boomer's" PP nose pour, adjustable mould that drops a 220 gr boolit. I need a starting point/powder type to load this heavy boolit for this rifle. I will keep looking in some old books that I have but nothing has turned up so far.
Any and all help/advice is greatly appreciated!
    Mike

Quickload seems to think the following powders will work, and should be safe with a 100% case fill.

    Winchester 760
    IMR 4007 SSC
    Hodgdon H380
    IMR 4064
    Accurate 2700

Not sure about 220 gr. but my old Lyman Cast Bullet handbook has some load info for the Lyman 311284 (210 grs.?) for .30-30.

I will look that up and post what I find. It isn't actually in the load tables, it is an article in the manual.

Whats the twist on that rifle? I tried 200gr in my 30-30, an old stevens bolt gun 1-12 twist. And the groups opened up alot, 180 runs fine but the extra length of a 200gr just wasn't stable enough.

    I use a Lyman 210gr RN (311284,) in my Win94ae 30-30, 20" barrel, 1 in 12 twist, using IMR 4350.
I don't know how strong your action is, but this is a pretty stout load; no pressure signs in my rifle.
