Finally I'm getting somewhere with this rifle.
24 of 25 rounds on paper at roughly 45 paces.
Barrel needed a lot of cleaning!
If you think your barrel is clean keep going, let it soak, brush, patch, repeat.
Hoppe's 9,Ed's red and Hoppe's copper solvent for two weeks and it finally patched pretty clean.
This is the NOE 268-134 gas checked LLA over 6.5g of 700x
Just need to drift the front sight over slightly
Loaded some more up tonight after these results.

Have good luck with mine with Rx7 powder, a 150 grain 266673 at 18 Brinnell and gas checked, sized .266 and about 1600 FPS. 1.5 inch groups at a hundred.

Yep, barrel needs a good scrub as most likely all these guns ever shot was jacketed.

    Good luck, GJ

My goal with my M1896 Mauser was a 4" group @ 200 yds with a 150 grain Lyman cast lead bullet. I tried Unique, Red Dot, IMR 4895 & IMR 4198 with no luck. Finally I tried IMR 4227 and everything came together when I tried IMR 4227.

My first 50 to 100 rounds were all over the place. even leaded it really bad once pushing it too fast. That's when i had to scrub and clean the barrel, and repeated several times a day for probably 2 weeks.
Then I went back to the load that worked excellent in my 6.5 M41 Carcano and it seems to be working.
My barrel was never maybe clean enough before.

    Red face

Attachment 153923My Husky model 38 Swedish Mauser shooting 159 grain bullet from my Lyman mold.

My load was 17.0 grains of SR4759.

The 12" square plate is set at 242 yards and is shoot from the prone position with the help of the Swedish sling and Soderin rear sight!

I now use 19.0 grains of AA5744 since SR4759 is no longer available!

    Results are similar!

Been working up a load too. 163gr NOE, sized to .266 and 7gr of titegroup showed some promise.
