Not really but by the time you pay a FFL $30 to send it and another $30 or so to receive it plus the actual cost of shipping it and insurance you can be close. Some sellers want to make money on the shipping too.

Which shipping method? A FFL doing the shipping?
    Need more details.

An individual can ship a long gun to a FFL using USPS. Do not put any markings on the package saying it is a gun. Have the FFL send you a copy of his FFL to include inside the package, and a copy of your drivers license. For the shipping to address, put the FFL's personal name on the label, not anything that would indicated the package contains a firearm. You will have to to tell the USPS clerk that it is a long gun, and tell them that the necessary paperwork in included in the package.
Talk to the buyer about using a FFL that will accept firearms from individuals.

I usually send USPS priority/insured and it runs about $45 depending on how much insurance. Now, if you are shipping to Alaska, figure double. At lease that is what it cost me.

Last rifle I sent USPS cost $50, 2/3 of the way across the country. It's getting expensive.
I was a dog on a short chain.
    Now there's no chain.
