I know I don't need it, but I no longer have a .30/06

Talk me out of it..

No I won't.
Perhaps I should save my money and buy a pre64 Model 70 .30/06
I have a soft spot for the 06, because the biggest deer I ever killed was with that caliber..
The last 06 I owned as an old win 95..
there's always the Browning 1885, 28inch oct barrel

I have never had an '06. But I do love my No. 1.
Maybe now I need one in '06 too!!! You got me in on it!!!
KE4GWE - - - - - - Colt 1860, it just feels right.
Have a #1 RSI in '06 that I could be talked into parting with

I own a mod 70 in 30-06 and I love it. You can never go wrong when choosing the '06.

There is no problem so great, that it cannot be solved by the proper application of high explosives.
If I could only choose one hunting rifle it would be the 06..
If I could have two it would be the .375 H&H..
You can't call yourself a rifleman if you don't own at least 1 Ruger #1. Mine is in .308.
So far I have 303 Brit and 458 mag. in the No.1. My first was a 300 Win Mag. Sold it. Regret it!

When I was a teenager (a loooooong time ago) I mowed lawns & saved up my money to buy my first deer rifle. I was an avid Outdoor Life reader so I brought home a Rem 700 BDL in .270 Win ($95). My dad admired the rifle & then said, "What happened, did they run out of .30-06's?" I guess that comment about sums it up pretty good!...LOL
I am a .270 fanatic..I have killed more game with the .270 than all other rifles put together.
My Ruger #1's are..The .204 Ruger, the .405 win ,and the .45/70
The .45/70 and .405 are fantastic for cast bullets.. They are some of my favorites..They will shoot as good or better than I am able to shoot them.
The .204 is finicky, somedays it shoots well and sometimes no..
It only likes Berger 35 gr flat base bullets and IMR3031.
Clay M , I too settled on the 308 as all I really needed. Runs cast easily and generally easy to get to shoot well. I chose a Kimber Classic84 as my "only" bolt hunting rifle. The 45-70 #1 stays with me, I sold my 243 years ago and alos regret that sale!

The 30-06 is a great cartridge. That said, there is nothing finer than a pre-war model 70 in good ol 30GOVT06. I've got a couple and they ooze quality, probably the one good thing about the depression, there were so few rifle orders they took the extra time to ensure every rifle that went out the door was right.
The ruger no 1 is great but the pre64 model 70s aren't going to be getting any cheaper.

I love the old Win model 70 pre 64's .I had one in .300H&H that was a fantastic rifle. I sold an M1A national match rifle to buy it..I shot it a while and then sold it to buy another M1A.
I had a dear shooting buddy who had a pre 64 .270 standard that was one of the best shooting rifles of its type I have seen. He died ,and his wife sold all his guns to a gun trader..
Never let any of his friends have a chance at any of his guns.
She hated his hobby, and liquidated everything when he died.
