Mold for 308 Win Mt. Rifle

    Hi,

I need some suggestions for a mold for my rem 700 Mt rifle in 308 Win. I just slugged the barrel at .3085 max dia.
I've tried Saeco 307(180gr.) and Lee 309-180 at 18-20 BHN with Ok results. I usually get 2 great shots with one flier out of 3 shots sized at .309. All groups are within 1.5-2".
I will try sizing at .310 next to hold in that flier(maybe). I'm using 5744 powder around 1700-1800 fps for best results. with my tests. My goal is 1" groups.

    Thanks

Most 30 cal shooters start by sizing to .311. The bullets need to be sized to the throats dimensions, not the bores. Fliers can also be caused by bullet lube issues too.

I tried some sierra 165 game kings also with 1 out of 3 fliers.

Has the bbl. been free floated or glass bedded? Could be a bedding problem.

The barrel is free floating its a bone stock 700 BDL with cheap fiberglass stock from factory from the 80's. I use it for hunting deer in NH, nice and lite.

Try what you have with dacron yet? Or going up/down 1/2 gr to check barrel harmonics?
    Whatever!

How are you achieving 18-20 BHN? At 1700-1800 FPS, your boolits might be too hard for hunting purposes.

I have found for me, once I get close on boolit diameter, I start seeing if I can seat the boolit at or into the rifling. I just found a distance off the rifling can seemed to really work. I used to get several good shots and then a few flyers. Now the hits are making groups. I found the seating position from a chamber cast and then a little trial and error. The theoretical length from the chamber cast was really hard to close the bolt on.

I would like to get a more of a bore rider boolit to try soon.
