300 AAC BO question

My CVA Scout Pistol has a generous throat and chamber. With standard length 300 brass, I have allot of jump to the rifling. I tried to set the bullets out, but it doesn't give me enough neck to do so. I shoot 110-130 grain SP bullets.

I ran some longer cut 223 brass thru the FL resizer and trimmed the brass till it fit the chamber. Its a "tad" longer than the standard length brass, maybe 1/32"-3/64". And after seating some bullets for LOA dummy rounds, I now have the COAL I wanted.

Now before I go and load up theses rounds, I want to know if what I did is safe?

Also, what is the best way to get a case out of a LEE FL sizer? Just buy another one?

Jerry, I don't see a problem. You may have lucked into a 40X.223 Wilson. I know it's apples and oranges but I cut down 357 Max for my long throated 357 Handi. GP

Good! I have only had experiance with straight walled calibers til this 300, in reforming. Its 44 mag twin, another Scout Pistol, I was thinking of getting some 445 Super Mag brass and cut it down as well. But will see what this brings first.

The only drawback I see is you might have to use a couple tenths of a grain more powder to get the same pressures than a standard load. I don't see any drawbacks with what you did, and your brass will last much longer.

Put a little bit of padding on your brass deflector. From my experience the brass deflector will dent the case mouths when they eject and you never fully iron them out with resizing.

After firing, don't forget to measure and trim your case necks when you resize them.

I figured I might have to bump my load up a bit.
I am shooting a single shot pistol.

300BO is designed for long heavy boolits, lots of freebore. Find the end of the neck and back off a tad. There is a lot of factory 125gr ammo, get some and check it's OAL. Is it safe to use the longer neck, yes. Is it a safe load? Probably not if your intent is to put 20 gr. of powder in it. Get a stuck case extractor or just pound on the decapper stem and plan on getting a new one. Don't know how you can stick a case in 300BO, if you use any lube at all, unless you are sizing the full 223 brass before cutting.

I messed up and the decapping pin is in it as well.
THinking I might just have to buy another one.

You should be able to use the decapping pin to drive out the stuck case. Then I take a tubing cutter to remove the case head.

You might be able to loosen and back off the decapping pin - then drill carefully
and pick you bolt and spacer carefully so it doesn't go too far beyond the web you thread.

I was worried I would damage the pin or die. I will try it!
The case was cut and tumbled and lubed and sized. I just ran it thru a second time and it stuck.

The only dies that are easier to remove stuck cases than Lee dies are Dillon dies.

With Lee dies you just loosen the collet and drive the pin and case down with a brass hammer.

Got the case out via Lee Method! Decapper pin is messed up, but that is possibilly due to me beating the pin without the collect collar in it. But still cheaper than buying a new die and its a lesson learned.

Yep! And already ordered three from Lee.
I could actually use the FL die as is because I decap with a Lee Universal Decapping Die.
