H 380, what is it good for.

I inherited 3 lbs of H380, unopened old cans.

I see there is data for my 350 Norma Mag, but I have some good loads already. Anyone use this powder for any other calibers, cast or J bullets ?

Great Powder, can be used in almost any caliber. Burning speed is between 4064 and 4350. I have used it in: .17 Remington; .17 Mach IV; .223; .30-30; .308; 7mm/08; .30-06; .243, and probably others I don't remember.

    H380

H380™ was an unnamed spherical rifle propellant when the late Bruce Hodgdon first used it. When a 38.0 grain charge behind a 52 grain bullet gave one hole groups from his 22 caliber wildcat (now called the 22-250), he appropriately named the powder H380. H380 is also a superb performer in the 220 Swift, 243, 257 Roberts and other fine varmint cartridges.

This powder works great in 8mm with 150 gr. j_____d boolits. fills the case, and will fill the deep freeze also. One of my favorite powders for heathen boolits. cbp

Greenhead; this is the powder I used in the 06 in the early 1960's, it was old stock surplus called BB ball, then H380(also surplus) then I bought it as non-wavered wc852, and now I'm using Special ball- all the same "true spherical powders- not flattened ball- 40 plus years latter I'm still shooting it in the 30/06 and 22/250. This "caviar" flows thru a powder measure like nothing else! Accurate has their own version-AA2700-

    Cabe,

It will work very well for jacketed most anywhere you find load data listed. Great powder for thrown charges.

I find that for cast, that you need smaller case designs matched with bullet weights that produce 90% plus load densities before it works well. 30/30, 35 Whelen etc. Filler helps it too like PSB. From my attempts on cast, it seems to need higher pressures (@40k) to burn uniformly and give fair ES without a lot of muzzle flash.

My experience using it with cast boolits is limited to one 7x57 load. It did not fill the case, and I got hangfires and humongous velocity spreads. When I hoisted the muzzle to vertical before each shot, it made a huge difference, so if I were to try it again I would take Bass's advice and use a filler.

Would you believe one hole groups at two hundred yards in my 22-250 with those Darn J boolits? Works for me!

I use H380 for 69 gr match bullet loads in 223 and 168 gr match bullet loads in 308. Really great accuracy. If you don't want it, I'll take it..

    H380

I use it for jacketed loads for the 270, 30.06, 35Rem, and 250 Sav. I THINK I used it for some 30-30 also, but would have to go check my records to be sure. The first 4 loads developed at 1" @100 and the 35Rem goes 1" at 200 with this powder. I like it because it meters well also.

One of the very best powders ever made for the .308.
