Weaver K4 scope repair policy?

Hey guys, I picked up an old Weaver steel tube K4 Marksman scope for a sawbuck this weekend. It has some lens packing material or something that has come loose and extends inside about half way across the field of vision. Does anyone know what Weaver's repair policy is on an old scope like this?

Trooperdan, Weaver hasn't been Weaver since the mid-1970's. They were owned briefly by Winchester, then other companies. I believe their scopes were being made in Japan, but don't know about now. Anyway, the present company is unlikely to have the means or inclination to fix your scope. All is still not lost, however. You will have to pay, but Weaver Scope Repair Service, 1121 Larry Mahan Dr., Suite B, El Paso, TX 79925 (915) 593-1005 can probably fix you up. Last time I used them they were quick, reasonably priced, and good.

Last year I sent in an OLD K 15. They replaced it for free with a BRAND NEW K15.

Sorry, NO Idear. It came on a gun I bought. I loved the scope, the gun wasn't too accurate (Rem 540X!) so I sold the gun and kept the scope. I do not remember if it said Japan on it or not.

The "real" weaver scopes have blued steel tubes.

Off topic, anyone have an opinion on the Nikon 4X40?

I use a 4X Marksman for our NYS SporterRifle League on a Rem.541S.
I beleive the Marksman scope has plastic lenses. Tapping (gently) on the lenses produces a different sound than glass...so I think that`s the case. Any El Paso Weaver is worth what you pay for it, within reason of course.
I particularly like and use the T series from the same time period.

STP--You think the lens is plastic. If a magnet will not stick to it,it is probably either glass or plastic.

It's been a few years now, but I sent a K 6 El Paso Weaver to the Larry Mahan address and it came back "like new." They even told me they replaced a couple of plastic parts in the original with new steel parts.

Biggest problem I had was a cracked lens and the adjustments didn't work. Very fine job and not nearly what a new decent quality scope would cost.

Thank for all the info guys; I think I'll send it off with a tear-stained letter about how it is the scope for my only rifle that I've had for decades and can they please resurrect it!

This weaver scope business ,made me dig out a weaver I got.K4 in orginal box with the Weaver instructions and How to sight in a scope by Jack O'Connor. There is the bill 37.50 scope,10.50 mounts and 5.00 to sight it in.
This is a tapered post with cross hair.

I have many Weaver K4s, lots here on the table in front of me.

I pay $20 for good ones.
I used to buy allot of them 6 or 7 years ago at that price.
Now too many want $40 to $60 for nice ones.

I have a Weaver junk yard in my basement.
I have never managed to get any part from one onto another.

I talked with an old timer about those scopes with the tapered post. He said in the old days they would mount them upside-down, so the tapered post came down from the top for more accurate aim at distance. He said the dials were still easy access too.

I sent my 4X into the repair service and today recieved a price of $48 to repair it. It sounds like it is pretty rough; do you guys think a Weaver 4X is worth $48 to repair? Or should I just tell him to keep it?

Of course it's worth a $48 repair bill, check out prices on ebay or Auction Arms. If you still don't think so, I'll send you $48 and you can tell them to send it to me when it's fixed.

I got a similar quote from the El Paso vendor to repair a 4X 3/4" tube 22 LR scope. I'll pay that in a heartbeat.
