Received the two 265 grain molds from Mehic this past week...works of art as usual. Ordered one plain base solid and one gas check with all pins... Won't be casting again for a few months...

    ...forgot the small HP pin...

I think this is going to end up the boolit used in the Custom Gary Reeder 5.5". Have tried several boolits in the 230-300 grain range and it seems to shoot the heavier boolits very well and handles the recoil very nicely.

There is a second cylinder in .41 GNR which is a .44 Magnum necked down to .41 but the velocity gain isn't that great. Have talked to Reeder about punching it out to the .454 based .410 GNR for some real velocity gain...

Found this on another forum, was supposed to be from an old IMR publication. 9 grains PB under a 210 gr. lswc gets 1260 fps and 39,300 cup.Barrel length unknown. As always use at your own discretion.

If I use my powder drop already set for 7 grains is this a good start point for the .41? I wanted a bit higher than 700-800 fps. Thanks, Paul

I will. Titanium Taurus 4inch with NOE HP and 2400 for about 1000fps. I hunt like I'm bowhunting so 30 yards will be a long shot, can't wait !!!

    rking...that should be a challenge!!!

GLynn...some pics of those would be great... I have a 5.5" Ruger SBH that Reeder build with a 5 shot cylinder. There is an extra cylinder in .41 GNR but I am not impressed with the velocities over the standard .41s... I am thinking of sending it back to be rechambered to .410 GNR... Your 12" TC..is that a GNR #2?

That 412-251 reminds me of the Cast Performance 255 with the .33 meplat...

    Which mold did you order?

The 412459 ,NOE 412-224SWC in a 4cavity PB. I've been using the Lee 195 but it is barely big enough as cast. I have a 412-238 HP with GC(230 in my alloy with HP) for a hunting boolit, but wanted a nice fast casting "just shootin" boolit. Was casting some Lee 375255s this morning and ran some more 411195s, no the mold is still a littlebit little, was hoping it'd grown some . Funny how molds have a personality, that Lee 375 mold makes great .380 boolits from the first pour, another 358200 Lee is a most difficult child. Had o smoke it to get it to stop with the folds. The 411195 casts good but just not big enough for my throats. they do size/lube easy I am shooting 41 special loads in a Taurus Ti while waiting on a 41Special GP100 from Clements.

Almost forgot: Handloaders Digest 9th has an article about 41shorts. Made from 45ACP cases!!! going to read it tonight. I always find new and interesting "stuff" in my old book shelf!

I read that article long ago -- to me it is easier to just trim normal .41 s to what I want-- becasue the boolits are so long in my Tarsus I shoot shorts--or specials in it

I love the .41 Mag. My uncle taught me to shoot and reload for his M57 8.375" back in 84' and I've owned them since. Here's my current .41s and couple of my bullets.

this may have been mentioned but John Taffin has an article on the .41 special-- two loads that work well are 13.5 of 2400 and 13.5 AA#9 with a 225-230 Keith or LWN-- that is my carry load in the 4''Tarus

I just shot this weekend with my 4" S&W Mountain Gun, 220g SWC/Keith (Accurate Molds) sized .411" BAC lube 7g Unique 12 shots all in the 9-10 ring offhand. Recoil was acceptable and not heavy at all.

I use just about the same load in my Mountain Gun but use 8.0 grains for 950 fps. That equals the original Police loading that Remington came out with in 1964. I have a box of them I picked up in a trade and will chronograph them the next .41 testing session... I hate to shoot them as the bullets are soft swagged lead and make a mess.
