7.0 grs. I did not get a chance to chronograph, but the load was listed to be a little over 1000fps. That is not fast, and I can get much faster loads. But Like I stated, it was accurate. I do like W231 because of the low flash.

    Congratulations and well done !!!
All that matters first is you have some good doe meat !! And you certainly did that right.
My first revolver corn cruncher was hit at 15 yards. He just stood there. Then he walked about 30 yards into a thicket. I was so rattled I thought I clean missed.
Finally climbed down. There was the hole in the dirt. Just short a tuft of fur. 10 paces along the first blood.
After I got over to the ticket there he lay bled out. In and out. Ribs both ways and lungs and heart. Never had another do that.
    Sure is fun !

    As I recall, 7.0/231 from a 4" barrel runs right at 900 fps...from a 5.5" probably 975-1020...

Have been PMs with a guy who happens to have the same .41 I have, a Ruger Hunter with a 7.5" barrel. Mine is box stock where his has gone to Reeder Custom and had a 5-shot .410 GNR cylinder installed. Ran some of my loads today to see what the velocity was out of a 7.5" barrel.

I'm not going to print his exact loads out but his bullets are singing...

    210 Swift A-Frame with H110 powder...1850 fps
My load is a 210 Hornady JHP with 23.0 grains of H110 and runs 1411 fps

    265 Montana Bullet Works 265 SWC-GC with H110...1650 fps
My load with a 265 MP TruShot clone and 21.0 grains of H110...1385 fps

He said he's been shooting big bore revolvers for 40+ years and nothing shoots as flat as this does..

So if you are looking for the ultimate .41 handgun hunting round look at a .410 GNR...

The rest of the loads tested today out of the 7.5" Hunter:

MP mold 211 grain Keith HP w/10 grains of Unique: 1349 fps

200 grain Remington JHP w/23.0 grains of H110: 1580 fps

170 grain Sierra JHC w/26.0 grains of H110: 1720 fps

Accurate Mold 41-215V w/10.0 grains of Unique: 1290 fps

As with everything...start a few grains lower and use a chronograph...

Those velocities are in the 414 Supermag zone +.
We have a 8" Dan Wesson 414 and I am not sure we ever pushed a 265 grain to those FPS. But it is his hand and revolver.
We never got into the light weight cast with our 414 as that is why we have a 8" Dan Wesson 41 mag and other brands.

In a 5-shot revolver I don't think there is much to worry about... The .454 parent case factory loads are running a lot more PSI than what the .410 GNR is...

I have 5.5" .410 and was told garys load that uses --in the 50,000 range of pressure and his go a little higher-- so they can be hot. Mine is a six shot conversion

well with a Leopold scope mount and a 3x ler it is not --I shot it once with a red dot and put the scope back on. I was reminded it is based on the .454. When i first got it I tried to see if I could get 1600 with my 255 and I did. Still happy with Garys original load and with a NOE cave like HP I use the start load it is about 1500. But weight of the gun is high enough recoil is not bad to me. My son has the .500 GNR prototype and that thing will really kick even with a scope. Just add 150 fps or more.... been there done that not going back.
If I want more horsepower, I will get my .358 Win

about the that .500... normally load to 1100 or so-- so add 150 fps way too much for me with a 375 gr
    Left that out
    Now a .41 load 19 gr of VN110 212 pentapoint cast pc gc 1700 from a 16.5" .41 Henry

..yea, those .500s are tough. Was shooting my 4.75" FA 83 in .500 JRH today with a 384 grain cast PentaPoint and at 1050 it is as far as I plan on going...

Was also shooting a JRH Custom Uberti Cattleman with .41 Specials. One load was a 250 Keith at 1035 and a 180 MP at 1130 and were just a joy to shoot...

VvN110 is the very best unsung powder there is in 41's & 44's... it's cleaner, faster and makes a lower pressure max-load than 2400 by a sizeable margin.

16.0gr in a 41special with an NOE-255 wfn clocks 1200fps through my 4.75" colt and 1500+ out of a Henry. One of the neatest, handiest all-around walk the continent loads in existence as far as mid-frame easy packing 41's go.

Yes, and N105 is a little faster and equally great for the .41, especially in shorter barrels.

Crying shame that VV powder tends to be so much more expensive than the others. I wouldn't mind trying that one, Ranchman!

Hey to all .41 magnum enthusiasts. I don't know if anyone is interested, or in need, but ebay has quite a few .41 bullet moulds available.
    Regards
    If a 41 won't stop it, I wouldn't bet my life on a 44.

...loaded up the last of my stash of the original Speer 220 grain JSWC-SP bullets... Put them over 9.0 grains of UNIQUE that should run about 1100 fps from a 4" gun..

That whole line of bullets was great...used a lot of the 146 grain .357 HPs and 225 .44s many years ago... They were basically a jacketed Keith bullet with the same shoulder that cut a nice round hole... The nose would "melt" off as it passed through things but the rest of the bullet that looked like an ash can just kept going...

    Sad to see them go...

    Bob

Are you talking about the Speer #4417? Pretty sure I have a couple hundred stashed away that I might part with if someone wanted them badly enough.
