.41 Magnum / 41 Special Load Data Center

For you lovers of the .41, be it Special or Magnum, I would like to start a thread that I hope one day will be a sticky... If we all contribute our own experiences and articles/posts that we find on line I hope to build a library that any new .41 shooter can come to for a good base of information.

Anything related to the .41 is welcome:
Pictures of cast boolits and molds
Personal load data with chronograph results
    Pictures of guns
Pictures of range sessions or hunts
Posts on other boards dealing with .41s
    Online articles dealing with .41s
    Loading data found online

So to start here are a few...

I started this thread over on the S&W Forums for the .41s 50th Anniversary

I have searched everything and the only major one I come up with is Taffin's... I see references to Raab's article but nothing is coming up...

I'm a brand new 41 shooter, so I have much more to learn than to offer, but I keep a close eye on this thread!

I have some 41 'stuff' to post. I'll have to put it together, may take a while.
I have liked the 41 since I got one...so much so, that recently, when I decided to thin my collection (eliminate some calibers), I made the decision to sell all my 44 stuff and favor keeping the few 41's I have...mostly because of a Marlin 1894s.

The 41 can be a challenge.
Finding a full Wad cutter mold is tough, I had to have Accurate make one for me. Also, I'm working through getting a GC that fits my 255gr Ranch Dog mold. If it weren't for some of the vendors here, I wouldn't stay with the 41.

My favorite plinking load is 5 grains of Tightgroup under my 410640 MP or any 210-230 grain SWC using 41 mag brass. Very clean and accurate in my 6" smith.
I am working up a magnum load now using VV N105. Accuracy is excellent but the barrell is a little dirty for VV. I will load up the ladder closer to max and give them a try. If past experience repeats its self these hotter loads will raise the pressure enough to get a clean burn. I gave up on trying to find VV N110.

    .41 magnum/special data center

I'm at work, but will break out the notebook when I can. I haven't casted any boolits "yet". However, I have loaded thousands of rounds. I'll share my data.

Before they banned pistols in the UK I had a S&W M57 with an 8 3/8" barrel, nickel plated and a S&W M657 with a 4" barrel. It was my favourite magnum calibre. After the ban I had this built. It is an Armalon. It is built on an Enfield action. It uses Desert Eagle magazines. The action is shortened relative to the length of cartridge (I also have one in .45 ACP and .30 Carbine) and it is cock on opening with a match trigger. It is the only one that was built in .41 Magnum.

    Moulds owned for the .41:

MP Molds 410258 215 grain Keith HP 4 cavity
MP Molds 411640 175 grain HP 4 cavity
MP Molds 413640 210 grain HP 4 cavity

    NEI 411 300 300 grain SSK GC 2 cavity

    Saeco #414 175 grain TC 4 cavity
    Saeco #418/#413 210 grain SWC/TC 8 cavity (4 of each style)
    Saeco #410 220 grain FN 4 cavity

Lyman 41028 212 grain FN 1 cavity (one of my favourites)
    Lyman 410032 210 grain SWC 2 cavity
Lyman 410610 215 grain SWC GC 2 cavity
    Lyman 410459 220 grain Keith 2 cavity

RCBS 41-210-SWC 2 cavity (2 different versions of this mould)

I really like the .41 magnum!!

Now that I have the carbine I am limited to bullet lengths that will fit in the Desert Eagle mags which means I cannot always crimp in the crimp groove. Other than the Lyman 41028 which has always been a favourite, my newest .41 mould is the MP Molds 411640 which is absolutely ideal.

    Simon.

PS. I forgot my prized possession a Hensley and Gibbs #256 210 SWC 8 cavity

We have an open order for the .41 Special brass, as soon as we get enough on backorder we'll have a full run made by starline, but they need a min order of 100K in order to do it.

    I've always wanted a .41 mag & a .30 carbine in Ruger Blackhawks, but alas, no $.... =8^(
