Springfield 1911s - Older models

All,

Years back I used to frequent the old Springfield Armory, Inc. website, contemplating which 1911 I should purchase at the time. I've noted recently that with their new website, a number of 1911 models are no longer listed, presumed discontinued.

Does anyone have model numbers/images of some of these older 1911 models, to include the long-slide variants, and different Loaded model variants?

I appreciate any help satiating my curiosity.

Here's my "loaded", bought new in 1996 or 1997.



I guess that's the model # on the blue box (in front of the trigger guard). My manual that came with the gun makes no mention of the Loaded model, I remember my first time trying to get it apart for cleaning and knowing nothing about how to deal with the full-length guide rod. My gun came with match grade SS barrel, full checkered cocobolo grip panels, Novak rear sight, Videki speed trigger, lowered and flared ejection port, extended single side safety, beavertail grip safety and commander style hammer along with the previously mentioned full length guide rod.
I had ordered the gun in blue, but when it came in I saw it was parkerized. I bought it anyways and have never regretted it. I would have to look to find the receipt to be sure, but I think I paid $499 before tax, and the shop threw in a box of ammo.

I added the Pachmayr grip and arched mainspring housing, and a Wilson Combat stainless barrel bushing and FL guide rod.

Very nice, thanks for posting. Was the FLGR the hex-wrench type, or a simple one-piece?

two piece, straight screwdriver needed to remove. The Wilson one I replaced it with uses an Allen wrench.

My (bought in '01) Springfield Loaded 1911A1 also came with a 2 piece full length guide rod, but mine takes an allen wrench.

This is mine, sorry I don't remember when I received it.

It's a Springfield loaded, Allen screw to remove the two piece guide rod.
Ambi safety removed and replaced with a standard one piece G I type.

Also a flat bottom F P S 16# recoil spring is all I use in it.

Many, many rounds fired through it and no problems,
It's also very accurate.

What does everyones serial # start with? I think it is NM or something like that means it was actually made here instead of Brazil. Some are but most are made there.

Mine starts with N (not NM) and is stamped as being made in Brazil. But has always shot great, and is very accurate even after over 90K rounds fired, so I don't care where it was made.

Mine also starts with N and was made in Brazil. I'd guess I've put between 10 and 20k through mine, so it's just starting to get good.

When I was researching these years ago before buying, it was my understanding that the guns Springfield made in the US used the Brazilian forgings for the frame and slide, but machined, fitted, and finished them here.

IIRC, the frames come from Brazil (a well respected forge), and are assembled in the USA. Regardless, they come out of an American shop, so I couldn't care less about the rest!
