    Happy birthday General Lee...a religious man...a man who was loyal to his state....his decision to fight for the South was based on what way his state went....a man whose tactics are still studies at West Point....a great healer after the Civil War.....a great man!

    I agree! Did a lot of CW re-enacting, 25th Va. ANV, CSA.

    Thomas J. Jackson was born about 60 miles away from where I live. I detest slavery, but it was about far more than that. I have kin from the same family that served on both sides, as many did.

    Much as I admire Gen Lee (I grew up in the shadow of his statue on Lee Circle in New Orleans) for his military prowess and his personal religious and moral convictions, we must never forget that he broke his oath to his country.
