$85 for a 12 gauge MEC 600Jr at a local pawn shop. Thoughts please?

The last shot shell loader I had was a Texan FW back in the early to mid 70's. Penny and I were visiting a local pawn shop today and I found a MEC 600Jr in 12 gauge for $85. It's a later version with the nylon sizing (?) die instead of the steel die I was looking for. What should I look for on a used MEC600Jr. please? It had the paperwork and maybe 100 plastic wads with it in a random box. Am I right that it's a nylon sizing die? Should there be just one charge bar? Checking Ebay, the price seems about usual. Thoughts and guidance would be appreciated. Thank you. Don

That is a $200 press. If it is good shape, that is a good deal.

Yeah good deal. I bought mine 3 years back for 50 with the auto primer and universal charge bars and it was a steal. Just bought a 28ga 600 for $100 today.

    Hi,
In good shape? Buy it! Then put the auto primer on it and adjustable charge bar and never look back. Makes an EXCELLENT shell! IMO!

Do it. I used one of those to load thousands of shell when I was shooting trap.

Thank you all. That's the positive feedback I was quietly hoping for. I'll stop back by in the coming week (they are closed Sunday). Don

Hope you get it Don. It sure sounds like a good price since you don't have shipping to deal with.

Still have and use version 1, the original, in 12 ga. Remember, they are for loading target loads, the 600 Jr isn't ideal for resizing high brass shells. In 20 and 410 I have the Sizemaster, a superior machine for the resize part, the other stations are identical. My 12 has the metal hardware, 20 and 410 plastic, both work well. If you are temped to buy the adjustable bar, I found it did not work well for 12, but it is fine for 410.

I have the Versamec 700, have owned for 30 plus years. Only paid like $30 or $35 used then, and still works great, lots of parts still available if necessary. I don't reload shot shells much nowadays, but it is staying on my bench.

Congratulations on your find. I don't reload shotgun shells, yet. But, I bought a used MEC 600JR at a yard sale this past summer with an adjustable charge bar ($15). My hand was shaking when I paid!

Pretty sure it is a nylon crimp die, not sizing die. I have machines with both, and both work fine.
