    Another Big Bore

Well I went and did it again and added another big bore to the collection .
I actually bought it last year but just got around to taking any pictures.
    It is a 500 CYRUS .
It is a blown out 416 Rigby necked to .500 DIA .
I push MY 700 GRAIN WFNGC at Vel 1850 , here are a couple loads that has been worked up .

    700 Grain WFNGC 70 Grains H4895 Velocity 1850
    610 Grain LFNGC 73 Grains H322 Velocity 1940
    420 Grain FNGC 83 Grains H322 Velocity 2280
    325 Grain Barnes XPB 88 Grains H322 Velocity 2600

Being this rifle is so light ( 8.5 ) all of these loads have a wallop indeed !!!
But it hurts so good !!!!!!!!!!
The rifle holds three rounds in the clip .

Here are two pictures of some loaded 700 and 610 grain bullets .
This rifle has put a few smiles on big bore junkies ......
My wife thinks I am compensating for something since all my firearms are big bore types ??????

Is that brass full length ? optical illusion or something but it looks short. Maybe cuz it's so fat..

    Savage action?

    Impressive BTW.
Boolits= as God laid it into the soil,,grand old Galena, the Silver Stream graciously hand poured into molds for our consumption.

Bullets= Machine made utilizing Full Length Gas Checks as to provide projectiles for the masses.

Good eye to both of ya .
Yes it is a Savage action that was reworked to feed the big-uns with a Montana Barrel , Accu trigger ETC .
Yes the brass is not full length and it is cut .
The rifle is called 500 Cyrus CCM , Cyrus Compact Magnum .

Hodgdon did the load development with some of my lighter bullets with TrailBoss and did pressure testing .
They have a couple of my bullets listed in their reloading web Page .

Overall I love this Rifle . I did take it on my last Moose Fly in float hunt here in Alaska but did not take any Game with it ..

I'll bet casting them boolits empties out a pot of lead real quick! And, I'll wager that it hits with authority - on both ends!

So what does a detached retina feel like?

So, in the second photo down, you've got some massive slugs over on the far left - I'm thinking those are bigger than the 710grs, right? 8 bore? .68 cal ML/BP?

You got some interesting goodies there, Rick.

First picture has a 300 Grain .452 DIA Truncated Cone bullet beside it to show it's size.

Second is a close up of the same .

Third picture has a 700 Grain 500 DIA Thumper added .
I love the hot Silver stream for sure !!!

If it were a handgun id probably shoot it but even there i have a limit. Rifle recoil bothers me alot more then handgun recoil does. Handgun recoil just startels you rifle recoil beats me up.

You must have a motorized rotator on the lubrisizer or the biggest forearms in the world. Just insert a bullet, turn motor on, and go get a cup of coffee. When you come back, it's almost done. I suspect that you get about 2 bullets per stick of lube.

Forget China, now we understand why there is a lead shortage in this country too.

Bullet companies are always reducing the count in boxes of jacketed bullets as the cost goes up, so for $20 bucks, what do you get? 2?

Holly smolly, and Lloyd wants it in a handgun.

Reading can provide limited education because only shooting provides YOUR answers as you tie everything together for THAT gun. The better the gun, the less you have to know / do & the more flexibility you have to achieve success.

I really like what I'm seeing here. Do you have a picture of the uncut case? I'm curious as to how much longer it was to start with.

I ran some numbers and based on the 700gr bullet going 1,850fps its recoil is less than that of a factory loaded .458 win mag. As well as its muzzle energy...is this just a mild loading or can you push it some more?

So, with the .880" slug, is this something that gets necked up or down from..., say a 20mm or 30mm AA case?

Does the firearm that shoots that slug come mounted on a carriage and/or have a lanyard instead of a trigger?

BTW, that 300gr .452 Truncated cone slug looks like a real 'block-splitter'. Cool.

And, the 500 Cyrus definetly looks like a real shoulder buster.

Due to medical reasons, I'd have to pass if I ever came across one (thank god) - looks like just the thing to rip the titanium screws loose in my neck. I'd love to see video of someone else touching one of those jokers off. In fact, why don't you run video of "range day" with the beast. I always get a laugh out of the guys on YouTube in the video of the guys firing the elephant gun.

dont get me wrong. Ive got my limits with handguns too. I can handle the 500 and 475 linebaughs and the 454 but even the linebaugh max rounds are enough to make me sweat!!

What do you shoot the .88 from?

This might be right up your alley: http://www.buckstix.com/howitzer.htm

You must have one heck of a lead supply.
