Went on Friday and unloaded hundred rounds in a skill builder class with eight other folks. I had loaded up a bunch of MP-40–160 – HP half and half lube and powder coated they all shot great they were over AA #5 7.9 gr. power factor of about 160 really nice for shooting paper fast with a 10 mill. Temperature was a blazing 20° or so as night fell. Soon we will be shooting with gloves on.

Tried out my NOS Lyman 457-124 I picked up a couple of months ago. Its throwing around 390 with RL +2% Sn at .359. So, they will be lubed and shot as cast in a Pedersoli Rolling Block that was slugged at .458. The range lead tests at 8 BHN.

I got my accurate mold back from hollow point molds. I love this one. It’s a .358 185gr mold with 2 of the cavities hollow pointed

I have managed to get a full day in the cave in the last month.

As the cave doubles as a mud room and throughfare to the laundry room it had become also a bit of a catch all as well ...... Fortunately it's mostly related so it's not as bad as it sounds at first glance .

It started off with consolidation of shot shells ..... In case anyone wants to know 4 cases will fit in a wide 20mm ammo can . 2 more cans and and a cooler from the move 4 yr ago were reduced to 1 20mm can full of boxes and trays , several bags of brass , 1 of which explains everything I needed to know about why a rifle that just wouldn't shoot 40 yr ago wouldn't shoot , and a small treasure trove of 1941-1963 or so 06' brass . Also 3 9mm/38/357 box trays full of paper patched 30 cal bullets .

A few days ago I managed to sneak in over 3 days about 4 hours and cast 500 H&G #130s in the $35 8 cavity . I actually poured probably closer to 800 . The first go was a train wreck with probably a 50% reject rate. The second was better at probably only about 25% and it really started to roll about the time I ran out of ladle depth in the pot . I should mention here that I haven't cast anything in volume or in more than a 2 cavity mould in about 5 years. Skipping over all of the quite frankly amateur stupid level flaws in my technique the 3rd run had only about 20 rejects and ran a full pot , about 35 pours in this behemoth mould . 1600 gr of bullets and nearly that in sprue every pass .
Sized and counted via the new to me transition Lyman 45 full of something that looks and smells like old school bearing grease but isn't as gooey and should be fine in a 5.5" 1917 .

It's been a couple of months ago that I prepped a total of nearly 1700 45 ACP SP and Auto Rim brass for this pending marathon of case stuffing .

Cast 30x .457 round balls and 50x Lee 457-405 from SOWW. Cast around 90x MP 227-640 Hornets from COWW, plain base and air cooled. Pan lubed the 22 cal boolits with Ben's Red.

Made a batch of 5 parts beeswax 4 parts olive oil black powder lube (Larry Gibson credit), pan lubed the 457-405s.

Mounted a new-to-me Lyman Universal case trimmer with a new compliment of pilots onto a 2x4 and clamped it to the bench.

Finally got my handles so I could use the lee 00 buckshot mold so fired up the big pot an made 1-1/2 pounds of buck that I'll load later this week. Also grabbed another mold bought years ago at a show in west Mobile Alabama that I lived in walking distance off for a 7.62x39 it's a tumble profile with gas check. Small single cavity but not bad boolits but going to take time to get the numbers. Going to find a good stool to sit on if I'm going to get 40 pounds of buck made, and get the shed ready for inside casting, the cold winds are starting to blow out of the North here on the Mesa and if snow arrives line last week it'll be out of the south. Time to get indoors for sure.

made hard work out of loading 200 44/40's
I almost exclusively shoot blackpowder but a mate gave me some brass (he's a fussy dude, likes allasame headstamp - starline is the latest fad) so he culled out a couple hundred R.P , and a few winchester, I did him a favour - here take this bag of stuff home. ok done !! thank you.
So I had about 400 of the LEE 200grain boolits for the 44/40 - really like the look of that one, lube grooves a little skimpy for blackpowder but in the gun concerned its an accurate shooter. So loaded a half dozen slow and careful to check things - large pistol primer + 7 grains of AP70 powder - all good .
So when I went to assemble these in my proper seating die all sorts of havoc ensued. All that seemed to want to happen was them little boolits slippin down in the case - had plenty of neck tension but soon as I got them seated to the crimp groove fffffpt down in the case with just a little tip stickin out - honest this deal was like tryin ta grab the pointy end of a wet bar of soap!! ....I ended up seating them to depth in the open with a stub die in a little simplex press, then clean the leftover lube off with a rag and WD40, then run em through the proper crimp die, the crimp groove on this boolit is skinny so I get a % of em with a little bulge at the crimp , so they all go through a homemade taper swage die I made for that problem (tight chamber and oversize boolits dont help) - then more fun, test every round for fit in the cylinder - maybe one in ten needs another touch with the swage die to fit free.
So with my normal Blackpowder load to sit these guys on this would have never happened - only messing round with smokeless was the problem
A good thing it was a miserable wet day out ! I spent most of it foolin round with these and listening to cowboy music.

Generations ago Ideal made a tool for pressing little dimples into the case at the correct position to prevent that "bullet-slipping".
