Cleaning brass, almost done for now.
Cleaning brass, almost done for now.
God Bless, Whisler
I was working on my brass tumbler last night, I have one of the Horrible Freight ones that broke at the base I'm trying to fix.
I did empty some cases today, a ton of calibers. 5.56, 9mm, 243 win, 450 Bushy and .40 S&W. Kept some fairly extensive logs which means I'm not stuck much longer on getting more ammo cranked out. Kind of a summary:
-BLC(2) seemed to have been causing a sticky chamber at the shoulder with 80GR JHPs in the 243. Grouped pretty well at 100 though. I think I'm going to try 4064 instead or try to figure out what's happening. It's a gummy mess though it seems. I may try to bump the load hotter though and/or see if it's a sizing problem.
-.40 seemed to have a weird spot, I went from 6-6.6gr with Power Pistol. Right in the middle I had what I thought was some primer flowing. I didn't seem to have it near so bat at the hitter levels just in the middle.
9 and 5.56 were more just to kind of goof around and see what my guns could do. I already had those loads pretty well sorted out.
-450 bushy seemed fine with what I was using, nothing remarkable there. I need to get the rest of what I have loaded up now.
I finished neck sizing a box of 50 .308's. I did the first half the other day but it was too cold to to do them all. Today was nice and I did the last 25. WIll start on the next 50 and the next 150 as the weather warms. I may have too many active sets of Brass for the .308.
Found a half a coffee can of primed .223 brass! I don't know if it is for my Ruger or my 1885 low wall?
Tried out my KM neck turning kit and turned about 150 300 blackout cases that were made from brass with thick cases that won't chamber in my rifle.
The KM neck turning stuff is really well made and thought out. It was easy to setup and works great!

Finished trimming, M die expanding, and priming all my 30-30 brass (340) and tumbled a modest amount of range brass I got on Sunday.
Loaded 50 9mm

Cast some 124 grain TC 9mm. Trying to get things figured out.
Neck sized, decapped and reprimed 50 Krag cases for loading tomorrow. Got to get the Krag out again!
Branded 350 calves...agreed to give some 30-40 and 308 Norma brass to some fellas that helped me.

Finished loading 50 Rds of Krag to test my new scout scope.
Finished up the brass work on some 5.56 to 300 BO conversions... All of these had thick case walls, so it was resize, cut, trim, clean up the cut, turn the neck and refull length size...
Lots of work for free brass...

Neck sized and deprimed 50 rnds of .308 brass only 100 to go, well and 150 rnds of .30-40.
Sorted brass.
Calculated amounts of SuperHard and solder to add to various lead stock to make my favored casting alloy of 95-3-2. As a concession to convenience and speed I used a calculator with the numbers I plugged into the formulas I worked out. True that I could use the site's alloy calculators, but I'm trying not to lose the few brain cells I have left.
Ordered a universal neck expander die since I'm gutting cast almost exclusively now, including rifle, etc.
