+1 for the Sierra 25 cal 100 grn. We have used it in the .250 Sav and the 25-06 and it just flat works. One of my favorite bullets ever.

I picked up a LH Savage this past weekend with a long 26" varmint barrel and a Weaver K10 in 257 Rob Ackley. The scope and barrel aren't my favorite setup for deer, but I'm going to put it to work anyhow.

The bedding on it was odd (full length barrel channel and recoil lug, but zero contact anywhere else on the receiver). Plus it's coming apart. So I'm redoing that this week. Should have here up and running in time.

Anyone recognize who made this barrel?

I was using the "Sierra" manual load of 35.5 Max. Went up to 36.0 of IMR 4064 powder thinking a slight increase would be like + P loads only not in that type of brass. It tightened noticeably..

My son read the blurb on the Roberts in COTW, and decided he wanted one. I sent an old, sporterized Mauser G98 to E. R. Shaw and had them install their lightest weight barrel, cut to 22". I had to bed it with pressure at the forend tip, but it shot great groups after I did. I have settled on the 100 gr. Nosler Ballistic Tip loaded to 3000fps using 4350 powder. It is a wonderful rifle, and drops whitetails with lung shots as fast or even faster than my .270s will.

Been doing some work recently with my 257 Roberts Ackley and have been very pleased with every bullet I've tried in it. Pretty much everything drops inside an inch without much fuss. Shot some 257312 gc'd bullets today over 2400 and got some half inch groups at 50yds this morning.

Just saw this thread. The 257 Roberts and 250 Savage have been my favorite combo deer/varmint cartridges for years. I own both in M77 Rugers as well as a M99 Savage 250. Settled on the 100 Hornady flat base Interlock long ago for deer hunting. Too bad it's been discontinued but I've got a good supply of them. Normally use H4350 in the Roberts for 100 gr bullets with H4895 for the 75 grain coyote loads.
