Best 308 Mold For High Vel loads

What mold company has the best molded bullet design for 308 bullets, 165g to 190g, for use in high velocity loads? And why.

That`s about the same as asking which truck is best or which candy tastes the best. As the old adage about opinions and manure chutes goes "Everybody has `em"!Robert

Yes everyone has an opinion. It's the "Why" they have their opinion which makes the difference. Their "Why" comes from their experiences. Get them, read them, evaluate them , which hopefully shortens your path to your goal. So I welcome the onslaught which I hope happens!

    Hope it's not a semi-auto.
I would not run high speed lead in a 308 rifle-Reduced loads, maybe.

What speed could I expect with reduced loads and what hardness of lead should be used?

Some guys are shooting over 3,000fps, however to do it without leading and with accuracy are the tricky bits. Standard with accuracy is around 1,700-1,950fps or so. Above that requires lots more experience, patience and learning. I've read you can easily do above 2,500 without leading, but again, accuracy is the issue. I don't have that yet, I'm happy with loads under 2,200fps so far, with most of my rifle loads falling in the upper teens.

Find yourself a Don Eagan mold! Mr. Eagan catered to the benchrest cast bullet fraternity and his designs were meant to give accuracy at higher than normal for cast velocities. They are nose pour, perfect base on every bullet. He's left this world, and the price of his molds are climbing. If you run across one, they're worth the money.
