Thanks for the link. I love the Patsy Cline version, too, but it's really at its best sung bluegrass style, IMO. Maybe I just relate to it best that way because of my heritage, though?

The real title is "Life is Like a Mountain Railway," but I often can't recall that simply because the words are so moving. Most people today are so jaded that little affects them emotionally. I'm the opposite, usually, except when I'm attacked verbally, when I just chalk it up usually to people's lack of thought and understanding. Christ was panned more than any other human EVER will be, but he also had his devotees of like mind. I learned long ago that we each must simply make our choice of who and what we'll serve, and whether it'll be good or evil or our own selves and our wants/desires/demands (usually on the side of evil).

I've just found that being open to what things MEAN lets me use my emotions in a more positive direction, rather than a negative one as they usually seem to do for most of us these days. God didn't give us an intellect AND our emotions just to have them used to our detriment! But it's up to us HOW we use them, and whether they'll serve us well or advance evil in us and all that lies around us.

Being easily moved by things that MEAN something positive has been a boon to me. I hope more can open up to using our emotions more positively in their lives.

All great and not often sung any more. And from my perspective, at least, that's a shame. Simple, to the point, and beautiful when sung with real conviction and feeling. Thanks.

That's a great favorite of the bluegrass crowd, especially when they want to get happy and smile.

I grew up listening to Tennessee Ernie Ford, he has a whole bunch I love. In the garden, oh holy night.

But this week it is "The 90 and 9"
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ltpKFmkYy1k

Had me crying when I realized that the LORD might look on me as one of his lost sheep.

"Rejoice, for the Lord brings back his own" = me falling on my knees and tears on my face.

    Man TE could sing them.

What a wonderful post, Ghosthawk! Thanks. Ernie was another "one of a kind," and when he sang that song, and you looked at his eyes as he sang it, you knew the depth to which he meant every word of it. THAT is what makes ANY gospel song so powerful - it's all in the delivery. And people who don't have it in their hearts can sing great sometimes, but it still won't touch the heart like someone who clearly MEANS what he's singing. Lots of great singers all over who never went or even wanted to go pro. Some of these rather plain looking ol' country gals can really raise the rafters of the church, and grab your heart and squeeze the evil out of it. Music indeed DOES have the power to soothe the savage beast - even us "moderns."

Have y'all ever noticed how just listening to someone sing like that can just totally change your focus and attitude? It's amazing the power good music and singing really CAN have when it's done to the marrow of our bones. Anyone who's never been so moved is SO much the poorer for it, and most likely just never let it in. People CAN do that, of course. As with knowing God's will when he whispers to us His advice, we have to be OPEN to it to let it come in. And some of us "moderns" are just too busy, too focused on the things that will all pass away, or whatever, and so they miss some wondrous and poignant things that more balanced and objective people "get." And really, it's all their fault, if you want to call it a fault. I just think of it as a choice or compulsion, but compulsions are usually just extensions of choices, so really, it's mostly about choices. And we make these every day.
