I was hoping the BHN would be higher... Isotope core Pb with ~1% Babbitt (air cooled).

I will try this load (as well as the 'fat 30') with WDWW + 2% Babbitt and see how it does in my Russians (w/o gas tube mod.)

NOTE: the Babbitt has Cu++ so it may be interesting to see how it fares.

I thank you for your time and effort... and i think Junior would be pleased (except for my 10 BHN boolits cast at 26 degrees last February - hence NO water dropping.)

PS: My isotope core AC alloy has about the same BHN as 20:1 Pb:Sn (ie: 'pistol mix'), according to a chart I looked ("Art of Bullet Casting" book.)
I'm guessing they would mushroom like a bandit...

Larry Gibson, you are my new hero!
I have been looking for a load for a 200 grain cast bullet for the 7.62 x39 for years.
This is the answer to a question that I needed to be answered.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge, and for the time and dedication you share so freely with us.
Go now and pour yourself a hot one...

    Tag for later.

I just ordered a mini mauser and I'm looking for all the 7.62x39 info I can find.

To bring up an old thread I have the Lee 309-200 which I powder coated and brought it to 312 which is what My SKS wants, however the booit seems to long to fit and the powder at 30 grn of lever is pushing the boolit it out of the case, any way I could see those pictures again Larry??

You are always a good read LG when a freshman can grasp what is being written.
My condolences to Jr's close ones. He has a heck of a biscuit recipe and hope there are plenty of squirrels and catfish where he is now.
May you hands be warmed on a frosty day.

Larry's top loads are too long for my sks also but they do great in my bolt rifle. I know of no other powder that works as good in my x39's when going over 170 grain slugs as LVR.

After reading this thread, I picked up a lb of leverevolution powder at Cabelas last week. I managed to obtain a mini Mauser in 7.62 x 39 last year and this sounds like the ticket. Small capacity 30 bore cartridges are just fun to play around with and easy on the wallet.
    "Is all this REALLY necessary?"

Indeed, does one really need a 300 Remington Ultra mage to shoot a 180 grain bullet at 1500 feet per second?
