    Need help with my shotmaker

    The story so far!

I am just the sort of guy who just dosnt like to pay full retail if i can get away with making it myself,

so i picked up a shotmaker / pan with drippers off of Ebay.

Tore apart a old campstove to for a heat source.

This is my first attempt at making lead shot i got the watter up to Warm.

got the lead up to temp, i dont have any way to judge the temp.

all i am getting is tear shapped, then falt bb's, then some started to popcorn in the water.

    Im using Wheel wights.

Water for a coolant. and a large pot for the shot to drop in.

I have done a lot of resarch read a lot of fourms i cant tell if i need to get a better water container, and bring the lip of the burner to just a quater inch above the water.

would love to get this perfected. as im trying for a hobby that can make me some extra cash to buy a few new guns.

    any thoughts.

I read on here that water will work if it is in the 190 degree range. I forget which thread, but the guy was getting good results with just almost boiling water.

I use hot water as a coolant but you need a deep container to give the droplets time to solidify . My container is over three and a half feet deep . Here is the link to the thread .

For your style of shotmaker you need a different coolant . I used soluble oil in a twenty to one ratio - water to oil . Anti-freeze will work also .
Popcorn pellets are caused by the coolant turning to steam . You have to raise the boiling point of the coolant to fix this .
Mis-shaped pellets are usually caused by the fall into the coolant being too far . The ramp of the shotmaker has to be as close to the coolant as is possible without it touching . An eighth of an inch is about right.

3rd attempt netted me 6.5 pounds of tis stuff. Not sure if its usable or not. But this is post screened.

I'll have to try tweaking the level of the pan to solution to get it better.

Yep, thats it, keep the lip as close to water as possible. I've been using just water at 150* with decent results.
