I came across a rifle the other day with that same proof marking and was wondering if anyone can tell me anything about it? Is this a Parker Hale proof and would the receiver be a Santa Barbara? Or is this someone else's proof and would the receiver possibly be made by a different manufacturer? Thanks in advance for any info you may have.

Mike, AFAIK, "BNP" = British Nitro Proof, a smokeless powder proofmark.

You would do better with a copper solvent. We use Sweets mainly here (it is an Aussie product) and it is available widely in the States. There is also Hoppe's Benchrest I think it is, which also strips copper away. I use Hoppes No9 to get rid of powder fouling, then follow up with Sweets to remove copper fouling. There are a lot more products out there as well. Do not soak the bore for long periods with Sweets or similar products, 20mins max. Hoppes No9 can be left to soak all night.

I have done this heaps of times, but am getting a bit old/lazy/slack/impatient/busy/whatever and tend to wait for rifles with good bores now

You will have a whole heap of fun with it!
