9mm and 700x

looking to work up a 147 rnfp lead (powder coated) 9mm
using 700x
there is data out there but is kinda all over the map
at first it kinda looked like green dot could be a guidline
but im wondering if 700x has more of a clays like hockystick pressure effect
has anyone messed around with this?
i know i need to push these bullets a bit to get them to stabilize

I would use a slower powder for that heavy a boolit. I use AA7 and Herco for the heavies in 9mm.

I`ve use 700X with 120 gr. boolits with good results.
I have no experience with the 147s.....dale

Hodgdon site has 2.6-2.9gr 1.10 oal for a Hp J bullet I'd start there.

I do a lot of heavy 9mm reloading with fast powders and it depends a lot on your bullet length and OAL but I would say start at 2.5gr and don't go over 3.5 using a OAL of 1.130

The old version of quickload I use doesn't have 700x in it but using the powders above and below on the burn rate chart I came up with that.

was just looking at the myriad of very different burn rate charts
and about the only thing i can make from it is i need to treat it like a combo of clays and red dot
so the 3.3gr loads i did up will be just fine
ill do some down at 3gr but i cant imagine less than 3 even cycling the gun (1911)
i ordered a TL356-124-TC mold so ill be moving to that after it gets here
but i do like the 147gr , i wish Lee made a tool for 147gr RNFP as im cheap

You could probably get the 158rn TL mold and cut it down.

If u run heavy bullets with fast powders u can get them to cycle with little powder.

I've been working on a new minor load and would like to get down to 2 to 2.4gr with 100% cycling. With a 168gr bullet 2.7grs of aa2 will cycle 100% with the stock recoil spring in my CZ.

My powder of choice for a 147gr would be n310 which is the fastest they still make I think.

but it been really tough pickins for anything but rifle powder as of late
trying to save my WSF and Unique and Blue Dot for emergencies

I hear that in spades. It can be very difficult. I would like to get hold of some bullseye or 231 but there hasn't been any in the loacal gun shops for over 6 months.

I know the physics of combustion do not really allow it, but wouldn't is be nice if someone would figure out some "majik" loads to use those slooooooowwwwwww rifle powders in pistol carts!!!!!! Those powders are readily available around here and it is a shame to pass them up, but I do very little with slow powders.

Tired a little of that, have some IMR 3031 that I'm not using so I tired mixing it with some other pistol powders in my carbine but it's like the IMR is not even there it's so slow compared to pistol powders the bullet is long gone.

Might need to throw it in the blender and make it finer, don't know if it will help but it can't hurt the carbine.

I have had great success loading 115 gr plated pills with 700x. The data on Hodgdon site was lower than the data in Sierra's fifth. I am about to start developing a load with 124gr cast. I will post results.

did 3.0gr 3.3gr 3.5gr
the 3.0 cycled the gun fine and brass at my feet
the 3.5gr load showed nicely flattened primers (not bad but flat)
the 3.3 didnt show any reason to use it or not to
so ill load up a couple hundred more of the 3.0 and that will get me thru the week
they seemed to behave much like 3.2gr of bullseye but a bit smokier
it definitely smokes more than BE does
haven't torn the gun down yet but i dont expect anything to messy

You know that BE 4.2 works well with 9mm 124 and 147.

i know im kinda funny that way
shotgun powder is so scarce around here im getting goofy

700X is the only pistol type powder available locally on a regular basis so I am going to use it for my regular practice loads with the Lee 356-120-TC at 1.052 OAL. Anybody have any favored charges? Would like to see around 950 fps and good accuracy out of my Glock 26 and 19.

Ferg, my 3.6gr 700x load with the 356 125 2r Lee mold @ 1.127 was in the 950 fps range this past weekend.
