This is a great article, lots of good info here on not only the 41 but other BP cartridges as well. I am sure you know this, but one possible way of easier lubing for those heel-based bullets would be to use a Star sizer and SPG; this would (quickly) put the lube right where it belongs without the mess and bother.
I have tried before to find info on loading heel-based bullets, but had not come up with anything very useful. Until now...thanks again for sharing!

This is great info. I gave up shooting my .41's on a regular basis but if I had a mold cut for my Master Caster, I could use my Star sizer & a Lee factory crimp die & actually get things done fast enough to use again for SASS matches. I tried to cast with a single cavity hollow based mold but thought I was spending a life-time at it trying to keep up enough bullets.

This is a help ! I started stoking my Colt 41 1895 6 inch using smashed up 358 bullets (did this in a vise) then sized using the removed cylinder. For brass I used shortened 38 special brass wrapped with masking tape. 5 grains of Unique and I was in buisness. Bullet was loaded with the nose in the case... had to load single shot but you would be surprised how well it shot. Actuallly on par with the heal bullets... but it is alot more fun having a full cylinder.

How thick (or sharp) is the edge on the "crimper tool"... ? The actual surface that engages the case ?

    Harry,

Interesting to see your topic today. I recently picked up a Hoch mould that was made to cast a 41 heeled bullet.

I am not really sure why I bought it, other than the price was right. Is there a great deal of interest in this caliber?

Not much interest, but I get several e-mails per year on the 41LC.

    Question Loctite

Greetings I was just reading in another area that JeffinNZ is using loctite on a heel boolit in a rook rifle . So I thinks I wonder about the 41 colt . Maybe even a super glue ?
What do you think about that ??

Harry, do you think that mold would be of interest to a 41 shooter, or are most trying to avoid the heeled bullet?
