I just joined a new boolit casting fraternity!

The "I broke a Lee six cavity sprue handle casting and got it replaced for free under warranty club"

Haha I'm sure I'm in good company!

Glad to hear it worked out. Don't let your sprues get cold!

It has happened to me also. Fortunately only once so far. Mine happened in the middle of a run when everything was hot. No apparent reason.

    Two hints:
Always make sure the sprue handle is fully closed before pouring. Otherwise you won't have enough leverage to cut the sprue.

If you do accidentally pour with the sprue plate slightly "not closed", stick the blade of a flat blade screwdriver between the mold block groove and the sprue handle tip. It will give you the added leverage to cut the sprue without breaking the handle off. I've used that to save me a couple of times during my early days of casting.

Lee warranty service has been very good to me too.

Never do I fill more than one or two cavities on a fresh casting session. Slowly bring mold up to temp.

I'll use my glove to aid in closing the mould. And avoid wrenching the handle too much .

Sure there are many fixes and the company may be good at sending replacements but should parts like this break so often? How many of these potmetal pieces have to break before it is corrected??
